speaking of cult..

Wife tried out a new gym earlier this week - its a small one similar to the one we just quit, but its not really on my way to work, but said she got an odd feeling from the owner and did some yahoo stalking - apparently in addition to owning a XF Box he also is a pastor at a small church - I know we have a cousin that goes to a huge Box in Florida that is mostly bible thumpers - maybe they crank up the Newsong Metal for workouts?

We 86'd that one, I dont need to be invited to also help fund a church in addtion to paying for the gym.

But wife said he was super nice, just after being at a small gym where sometimes you have 2 people in the class and have to worry if the other is showing up and doing the workout solo i just felt like a slightly larger gym would be better - for now at least..

makes sense in way...physical and spiritual health both associated with the words cross.

Once, maybe twice, there's been Christian music as the soundtrack for the workout and it was kind of weird and not nearly as motivating as 90s gangster rap.

Me and a few guys had just gotten some heavy metal added to our standard playlist at the old gym too :(

But - Damn so new gym has a family plan that is cheaper than what I was paying per month for just the wife and I?

Wish she had gotten chewed out earlier!

This may only be funny to CSB but this is how this week has been - I wonder if its "too soon" to post this for the 12 "FB" Friends I still have from my old gym who also might benefit..

It was funny, the wife was still fealing a little bad for leaving, but when they told us they had a family plan for 4 for actually a few bucks less than what we paid just for us two at the old gym it was like a done deal.

& music to wifes ears was also they are not doing partner workouts due to covid - although I like them

I am a little sad to admit I am going to miss my normal partner wod friend..

^ they should love you then!

I am working on my gym bud - he bought a home gym and has been paying drop in just for some aerobic stuff, he had some issues with the owner as well I later learned,  - but the new place doesnt do a punch card system - He said although his "gains" are better he is startign to get the belly back since he isnt doing cardio or a full program -

the membership at my old gym doesnt expire until the 18th- I am thinking of making a final apperance next Saturday for one last partner workout...

I did not make a final appearance, just figured that would be weird..

But we ran into another couple we used to work out with over the weekend, I guess they quit the old gym last week (they didnt know that we had also quit) but they were evening workout people so I hadnt seen them in a while since I switched over to mornings - they said they left due to the junior grade coaches.  They went to another XF gym in the oppsite direction of the new one we went to.

I sort of feel bad, I know including us he has lost 6 people this month - Id guess he is at maybe 20 members? I honestly dont know how you pay the lease at that - He didnt seem to care to listen that maybe his coaches were not good when we were making our exit, no way I would go back but at the same time I dont want to see the dude go out of business.

But to me it says something that there are two gyms, 5 miles away who always have full classes and are almost to the point of being "too full" and this one has many classes with only 1-2 folks signing up..

I think there's a huge difference in going somewhere with good coaches and going somewhere with junior coaches. Two more of our coaches just got their Level 2 cert.

You'd think that he'd listen as he's bleeding memberst. That sounds like a him problem.

Its weird the owner is very solid, and I would assume he knows who is good and who is average- but after they had the baby ( going on 3 months) he kept the part time coaches - he was only teaching a handful of classes a week. He has 4- one was very good, but she is also a FT Chemical Engineer and usually just does Saturday classes for fun, then they have 2 who are really terrible, (one does nothing and the other never shuts up-they make it obvious they will give that L1 to just about anyone), and then he has a younger girl we really like because she is also going to nursing school - shje reminsed us of us, working and going to school without mommy and daddys help(the wife helped her get a gig in the ER at her hospital) she will be good in time, but only does a few mid day classes.  I cant believe its worth the hassle but maybe they get free memberships also?

But the guy is so picky and OCD we almost cant believe he lets two of  them coach to be honest.  I dont know if he is doing some other work instead of coaching to make some money, but if youre paying that kind of money you need to be getting your moneys worth.

- In happier times last year I recall his wife (28 or 29) would aways say "oh you all should go check out other gyms and then see how bad they are" and Im like, **** I would have left a year ago!

Oh well.. we paid for nearly 3 months of shutdown so thats my charity for a while..

Do people have racks in their garages that they love/hate have pros/cons what to look for? Trying to do a basic setup and not spend $$$$ on something unnecessary. Want to be able to do basic home gym stuff with bars squats and bench press etc? And something that has a catch for if you're lifting heavy things solo? Or is that standard? Thanks in advance!

I would find a fold-out rack with spotter arms.  Honestly, COVID has such a huge impact on racks/home gym equipment, it's going to be a "grab it if you can find it" situation right now.  Your best bet will probably be Amazon at this point.

I prefer the ones that have the spotter arms that anchor only on one side, which should be standard on the fold-out type racks.  You can lay some plywood/DIY platform across those for improvised loading platform, adjustable height box jump, etc.  They also let you use bigger or oddly shaped implements that won't fit in standard j-cups, but still step back for something like a push press where you need to dip and would otherwise hit the spotter arms.  I use it for log press all the time.

Build quality, hardware, fit and finish (welds, paint/powdercoat) are the biggest difference between the majority of them.

I didnt check the availablity of racks but Rogue has really ramped up their production - I ordered a barbell 2 weeks ago and it came Saturday (still waiting on the weights)

But I agree If I was to get something I would get the fold out style rack - I actually spent some time figuring out how to rearrange the gargage to make it fit

But if you are moving to Jax, my (wifes)cousin and her husband are part time coaches here https://www.crossfitfernandina.com/    -  its so easy a caveman could do it..

The big downer about the Rogue racks are cost.  With spotter arms you're looking at right around $700 plus shipping and tax.  But they're the best out there, and worth it if you're willing to invest.

Thanks. I was curious if rogue was worth it. I'm just in planning stages right now. I don't get there til early December. Want to do research bc he likes to buy right now and not research beforehand lol.

Fold out style would also be easier to clean around I think?
