Hello everyone, my name is David. I have been working as an engineer since 2009.

A little background about myself—I passed the FE exam in 2010 and am finally starting to study for the PE Power exam. I currently work as a software engineer with an electrical engineering background, focusing on the transportation/railroad industry. Unfortunately, in my specific line of work, it is rare to be a PE or work with one. I now work in a small company with no PEs, so finding references is one of my biggest challenges.

Although getting a PE license is not required for my work, it has been a personal goal for a long time. I want to start connecting with other EITs and PEs in the hope that when it comes time to apply for licensure, I will have PE references who can vouch for my engineering competence and ethics.

For those who have faced a similar challenge in a niche industry without many PEs, how did you go about securing references? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to learning from you all!

If you haven't already, consider joining local professional organizations (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, National Association of Power Engineers, American Society of Power Engineers, etc.). If they have conferences or committees, that would give you the opportunity to interact with other engineers.
