Sugar makes everything better!

I went to an intro class at Ninja Playground here in town. It's based on the TV show Ninja Warrior. Holy crap was it fun! My arms are still feeling Saturday. It was good motivation to keep losing weight, because my T-Rex arms were not meant to hold up my triceratops body. They have a strength class on Tuesdays that I'm planning on attending. There were a few of the obstacles I just couldn't clear, like the swinging hoops. I'd make it off the first hoop, grab the second, get momentum, then fall off the third.

Did anyone ever watch Most Extreme Elimination Challenge? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_Extreme_Elimination_Challenge I'll admit that a lot of the tracks for that show were running through my head as I tried things.

So the wife hasn't officially started the crossfit yet, but IMO this is going to be a total scam - they have already started with the "upselling" shakes, heart monitors, etc Plus you have to do 6 classes with an instructor at $60 bucks a pop before you can go to "cross fit"

I guess this is just forcing you to go to the gym and maybe have someone push you a little harder than when you go by yourself or to a "zumba class"

yeah, i feel like if it works in the end, it's worth it, but if it doesn't, be willing to stop payments.

my cousin hasn't been to the gym in MULTIPLE YEARS like probably at least 6 years (foot and shoulder surgeries galore + laziness), but she keeps paying for her gym membership because it's $10 a month and who has memberships for $10 a month??? I'm like dude that's over $700 which is what you pay for rent so yeah...logic isn't her best trait :)

if you are unfamiliar with the olympic lifts and crossfit movements the "foundations or on ramp" classes are very important before starting crossfit.  very little instruction is typically given when you get into the actual classes, or very little time is devoted to technique.  you are expected to know the basics already.

Meh...how hard could it be?

unless you get it subsidized.  I pay $20/month and we get $150 back from health insurance, so for the years I didn't go it was only costing me $90 /year to not go.

but i could go if I wanted to.

I'm actually trying to go at least a couple of times a week these days.

I think it will be fun for her, I do know the techniques are going to be very different for her - she has been nagging me to go also but the deal I made with her is that if she would just let me go work out solo I would go to our regular gym when she does Xfit- for some reason, and maybe this is a chic thing, she just always wanted to workout "together" which just doesn't really work.

Last winter I did mostly weight lifting and lost around 25 lbs, then I just got bored of the gym and ran some but it all teetered off, I just need to get back in the gym and not have to have "company"

@Supe is your cousin?

This. My wife has always tried to tie her working out to me doing it with her. I did on many occasions, but I finally had to stop doing it because I would go through the couch to 5k with her, taking 2-3 months, and then after a few months she would stop for one reason or another, often a funeral of a distant relative, and several months later she would decide she wanted to start again, so I would have to once again stop my running and re-start with her. That drove me nuts because I would finally be getting to where I wanted to be (10k range) and would then have to start all over again.

Now I have physical fitness standards to meet so I have an excuse, but yeah.... working out together rarely works unless you both have the same goals and fitness levels.

my wife's goals and my goals are completely different so working out together has never been an issue, before kids we would go to the gym together but we would do our own thing.  We do yoga  and cross country ski together though.

We (well she ) used to try and go run together and then she would pout if I kept running for the full 5 miles when she would stop and do the run / walk thing around 3 miles in.

last year she started going to these  body pump classes at the rec center and that allowed me time to do my thing at the gym, which actually worked for both of us but then chics are always like, we should still drive there together?  The times they have the classes are when the gym is the most crowded, I would like to go at 7 when it died off -

My wife and I could not go the gym together.  As it is we will go for walks to get exercise together and she just kind of meanders while I want to keep a strong pace to 1) work up a sweat and feel like I'm truly exercising and 2) get it over with and not make a career out of it.  She seems to understand and is quite content to let us each do our own thing.

I will say that she's been quite diligent with the weight watchers program and has lost 30-40 lbs in the past 10-12 months.  I need to be more conscious of my food (and beer) intake as I think I workout out more but I'm struggling to lose more weight.

On the first day of a new job I decided to get after it and start working out and eat better (less) again.  I've decided to poo-poo pull-ups as that has aggravated my wrist in the past.  Instead, I use bands in a simulated pull-up the best I can (back flies and what not).  Still doing the P90X thing, but not as rigorously as the program recommends.  Three or four days per week is good enough for me without taking too much time away from the family.  Push-up heavy yesterday and my chest is sore.  Damn I love this feeling.  :th_rockon:

Thinking of #2 being said in a thick Boston accent makes me LMAO.

Agreed. Mrs Dex and I are almost polar opposites when it comes to workout types, goals and even diets. We had tried doing workouts together, but they just don't work.  I hate her videos, she doesn't like mine. She's trying to lose weight, weight loss is the last thing I need.

The only "workout" we do agree on are our regular evening walks. Nothing fancy, just get out of the house and walk around the neighborhood for 20-30 min.

I can barely even walk with her, I prefer to either actually "run" or just "walk" where she likes to do the "fast walk" which just annoys me. I get in trouble for lagging behind and seaming uninterested... #25years....

I generally do not workout with my fiance, unless it's runs (though he is faster than I am), long bike rides, or yoga. Otherwise, our workout regimes differ and we also workout out at different times of the day.

We aren't members of any gyms or studios, but do have a yearly membership to an online yoga person we like a lot. We do all of our workouts either at home or outside.
