we also get to accrue sick time. The intent is to allow one to accumulate enough sick time so that if you ever got seriously ill, your sick time will carry you through until long term disability kick in.
If someone gets seriously sick, our short term disability kicks in. So that's not a problem. We use our sick days for a bad cold or stomach flu or whatever.

 
Sick and vacation time are the one crap part of my current company. You can only bank 30 sick and 30 vacation days. Plus they just cut down the number of sick days employees with less then 10 years get from 12 a year to 8 per year. Luckily Im grandfathered but several newer employees are pretty pissed about it. The :BS: up from 12 vacation days doesnt come until 10 years at the company either.

The good thing is that its really easy to just cut out for a few days. They're pretty good about letting you take off.
