Hmm. . . My computer says "A disk read error has occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I think this might be bad.
Does that ever make the computer turn back on? This wasn't my first blue screen of death on Ol' Bessie, but the first one she won't recover from.
Did this happen while in Windows and it crashed or was this during boot-up? How old is "Ol' Bessie"?
My laptop is a 6 yr old Lenovo with Vista. I got the blue screen of death while uploading photos to snapfish, and now it keeps giving me disk errors when I try to boot it up. I think it's time to scrap the laptop unless you know any laptop magic.

It's most likely not the laptop but rather the hard drive. Typical consumer-grade hard drives tend to only last about 5 years but continue to slow down throughout that time-frame. Your saved data can be easily recovered and a new hard drive put in if you wanted to continue using that machine. But you are probably due for an upgrade anyway. 2 brands I typically do not recommend to people are Toshiba and IBM (Lenovo). I'm partial to ASUS, ACER, and HP (in that order).

Knightfox, thanks for your advice. I knew this day was coming, so all my files are backed up on an external hard drive or on "the cloud" somewhere. I think I'll upgrade to just a tablet, because my husband and I both have gigantic Dell work laptops and we find 3 laptops in a 2-adult household kind of excessive.

<racking brain for possible other explanation of that phrase.... cannot come up with one>

There's a tropical depression sitting on top of us today.... well, slowly passing over us as it slowly spins.

The rainfall is really disappointing, though - Guam is getting flooded, but for some reason our quadrant of the storm is relatively dry. We're something like 40% behind in our annual rainfall, so this is a bit of a bummer.

I get to go with Minisnick's pre-k class tomorrow on their field trip to a pumpkin patch. So excited.
