how the ap=2.5, Rp=2.5 come out? what are the right numbers ? (I'am using version 2006)

I couldn't figure out. Thanks

The way in which the ap and Rp is determined is a little confusing. I believe the last sentence of table 13.6-1 explains the mystery away (at least for me). If you can't verify the 1/4" clearance, then you can assume Fp, which would make the ratio of ap/Rp=1.0.

The problem does explain that the attachment is ductile, which implies an isolated system.

1.) you do not need this book for the CA Seismic -and-

2.) you should not be using the 2006 IBC (use the 2009IBC/2010CBC)

ptatoe...

why would he not need this book? Also, the book references the ASCE 7-05, which is the final denominator of seismic design (in case you didn't know).

Of course, I'm not even studying for the seismic stuff. I've been told it's rather easy, and I do seismic daily.

Mc,

It's not needed for the CA-Seismic exam. All that is needed is a good workbook created specifically for the CA-Seis (Ibrahim, Hiner, Mansour, etc.) and additional CA-Seismic exam specific practice problems, and the ASCE7 and the CBC/IBC (although less important since most of the important ASCE7 and CBC material is reproduced in a good workbook). The exam covers Seismic principles, not necessarily Seismic design. Yes, the 2006IBC/2007CBC references the ASCE7-05 but I'd still recommend not using outdated material. The exam (currently) tests on the 2010CBC. Some may find it an easy exam. I and others don't work with Seismic regularly and need to study quite a bit to pass.
