PE Exam and Qualifying Experience in NJ

I am considering taking the PE exam in NJ for environmental but this is more of a general question. It says 4 years of engineering experience, and 2 years of design under a PE. I do believe I have this but I'm unsure how the board will view the experience as qualifying. So basically, it seems...

Urban planner interested in civil engineering career

Another thing to add is that I fully endorse what you are doing. If you can get the CE degree and eventually earn some experience with designing sites and HEC-RAS and AutoCAD, I think not only could it help your upward mobility, it could help you branch out if times get lean in planning.

Urban planner interested in civil engineering career

I have a similar background. Two things strike me about your post. One is that if you want to do land/site/road development, I don't think a Masters would help you that much. Civil Engineering Masters are more helpful when geared towards technical pursuits, such as Structural and...

    Shipping Containers - Structural Engineering

I don't have an answer to your question, but I actually have a question to your question. Lol. Structural engineers are used for residential? What kind of houses? How often? I was really curious about that actually.

What would you call this type of Civil Engineer?

I've seen a lot of job descriptions for this type of Civil Engineer: What you need for this position: -BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited university -Professional Registration as a Civil Engineer is preferred, but not required -3-10 years engineering experience in civil site design...

    Importance of Graduate School Reputation

I have seen a few recent posts remarking on the importance of graduate school reputation for Structural Engineering. I am a mid career changer and am tentatively enrolled in an 'OK' structural program for the fall. Rutgers University Structural Engineering. Local to me and convenient. Since...

Getting ready for FE EXAM 2013 October

I just passed the April 2013 exam and by far the best advice I can give is to learn that (not so) little FE Reference Book front to back. Like know where everything is, and especially what is contained in anything that will be relevant to your PM test. Like seriously, spend several hours going...

    Questions about EIT exam.

Thanks for the advice guys. I decided to take the test (believe it or not) partly based on the responses here and I was able to pass. Although I don't like the idea of passing a test I didn't really prepare for in earnest, I guess anytime you're studying for your engineering core courses...

    Questions about EIT exam.

I'm signed up for the EIT exam next weekend. I have only had time to study for it a handful of hours. School has been really busy and it takes precedence. Of course, my classmates who are taking the EIT have not really studied for it either. I'm a really good student, so I 'm guessing...

Nontraditional entry level candidate. Resume format?

I am trying to switch careers into structural engineering. My full background is listed in a thread below for anybody who is interested. Basically, I would like suggestions on how to format my resume. I have three semesters in a BSCE program and I have done excellent. I also have 9 years...

    Masters in Structural Engineering

How important is it to have a Masters if I plan to go into structural engineering? I am a nontrad student doing a 2nd bachelors in Civil Engineering. Close to done. The thing is, I already have a Masters in a somewhat related field. Planning. I have talked to professors at my university and...

Question about structural engineering (nature of the work)

I am a nontrad undergrad switching fields into Civil Engineering and I have made some posts. I have a question about the nature of Structural Engineering, which is currently the subset I am leaning towards. I have read some job descriptions of Structural which leads me to believe that it is...

    How many years in Consulting?

What is the difference between consulting and working for a huge firm? Aren't the huge ENR Top 200 firms all consulting firms?

    Masters with no Bachelors

The program the OP is discussing sounds like NJIT. I was accepted to their Environmental Engineering Masters Program as well and considered doing it. But since I already have an Environmental Masters Degree, I opted for the bachelors. NJ is one of the toughest states in which to earn your PE...

I'm in doubt with my situation. Opinions?

Thank you! Staying in environmental is a possibility. I also would start out much higher on the food chain if I did, and would almost definitely be done with school, where if I went into Structural for instance I might still need to do another Masters. However, a large component of my move is...
