The dogs went through the new baby gate at my wits end

Dogs would be getting their butts whooped...
+1. I actually have our litter boxes behind a door where I put a cat door in. Removes the temptation and most of the smell. Maybe that draws them to it? Pretty strong pups to bust through it like that. Wow.

How old is your house? I like to say my house is haunted because I saw this young woman dressed in 1930s-1940s style clothing in my son's room one night, but I was deliriously exhausted, so I may have been hallucinating my own fantasies about haunted houses.

Edit: surprise top!

^ LadyFox watches all those haunting shows on Discovery/History channels. She sometimes "thinks" she's seen some things too. So naturally I get my PKE Meter to check and nothing ever shows up on that. ;)

The thing is.... this really is a new thing ... they had gotten into the litter box before on occasion, but its not Luke they are puppies anymore... Ana turned 7 earlier this year and Rex is about to turn 6... and yesterday they also ate a loaf of bread off the counter... I can think of maybe twice where the ate food from the counter...

I can't do the cat door thing because the cats won't go through it. I have a hard enough time getting them to use the box that is out in the open. Besides, if the dogs eat it then there is that much less I have to worry about cleaning the cat box.

EG- it's probably since your working now and they are feeling bored... My dog (border collie) who up until we moved was the best behaved person In my house. Has chewed up 2 bike helmets, eating cat turds, jumping the kids, and general stupidity... I think she is feeling all the chaos of change...

Side note- anyone use the self cleaning litter box? We're thinking about it so reviews are appreciated!

That's normal at first. You can certainly train them though using treats. Ours were also reluctant to use it at first until we worked with them a bit. Wet food was also key. Once they learned food and litter box was behind this little door, they were sold on it. And gross on the dogs. Hope you don't let them lick your face. LOL

+1. I was going to say something similar. Dogs tend to "rebel" when what they consider to be normal changes suddenly. As for the self-cleaning litter box, perhaps they have improved since we looked at them, but I hear they don't work all that well and the replacement liners are expensive (I think you have to buy the same mfr's brand).

Dogs are either in the garage or in the back yard. They tend to not be inside for very long.

That and it just dawned on me with the government shut down and TDY's cancelled... someone else is home a lot more....

We have the self cleaning thing and I love it... I have had it since July and other than the dogs messing with it, I just ignore it except to change the bag and add more litter once a week.
