The energystar ratings weren't very good, but I saw some really nice looking Samsung refrigerators with the bottom freezer. I think one model even had a powered drawer, so you just lifted the handle and it did the rest of the work.

Little late now, but when my parents were looking at a new fridge I thought the bottom freezer ones all were a lot better energy wise.
