Honestly, already got one. Fairly confident I passed, but will be at something of loss if I didn't.
Taking it twice isn't bad, though. I know two structural guys who are really bright, and studied their butts off, but both had to take it twice. That was a few years ago, and now they're both partners at their respective firms.

Do any of you use Microsoft Teams at work? Since Skype is getting phased out, they've been switching us over since like June. And some divisions have had their Skype disabled so they're forced to use Teams. It's shocking that they left the GIF option enabled.

We use Skype.

Haha, yep. I personally like teams, confusing UI aside (I can get used to it)

We are in the middle of transitioning to Teams.

There are days I post entirely in gif to my team.

Honestly, I feel like a good portion of structural folks have to take it twice. That exam has a whopping 13 (roughly) required design codes to pull from, and you almost have to take the exam once, just to know what kind of off-the-wall questions they're going to pull from the codes.

The geotechnical exam is much more theoretical. Like, 40-60 percent conceptual questions kind of theoretical, so if you have the concepts and general practice firmly down, you're generally good... Generally.

Based on what I've seen, geotech doesn't sound like a fun specialty to me.

Based on some of the structural I've done (just sizing beams and footers), structural sounds fun.

I enjoy it, but it's not for everyone, for sure.

I get the feeling the exam writers mostly want to avoid having geotech become the go-to exam among general Civils who don't fit nicely into any of the specialties, so they make it difficult if you don't have some combination of significant geotech education or experience.
