I was having trouble with NCEES sample problems 513, 530, and 540 until I realized that they could be solved easily with the MVA method.

 
yeah...whatever method you use...make sure you understand it b/c fault analysis is an important topic for the exam

 
I'm getting 2343MVA on 540. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if that is what you've got when doing the MVA method.

 
Haha!!! It's been a long month already. I wrote the T1 MVA as 993 instead of 933. That's where my math went wrong. Ok so I studied the MVA method tonight and went through and got all three problems correct. So excited!!!

 
Does anyone know how to use the MVA method for this problem? I tried the link above and it no longer works, and I have also been searching the forum. Thanks
 
Fault MVA on Gen. (Sg) = 834/23% = 3626.08MVA

Fault MVA on Trsf. (St) = 933/15% = 6220MVA

Total Fault MVA (Sf) = (3626.08*6220)/(3626.08+6220) = 2290MVA

As above said fault MVA of Gen will travel to 230Kv line through Transformer so we have to calculate overall Fault MVA.

I hope this will help and Please feel to correct me if I am wrong.
