Is anyone willing to sale Steven Hiner's Seismic Workbook based on IBC 2009?

At this point, don't buy a 2009-based book, wait for the upcoming 2012-based books coming out by the authors. I heard the exam will be based on the 2012 IBC/2013 CBC starting Spring '14. Also, consider Dr. Ibrahim, he's the Seismic King. Good luck.

I am pretty sure the Board is confused on what the exams will be based on. Their website says both ways for the Seismic Exam.

"NOTE: The Special Civil Seismic Principles Examination is developed using the 2010 California Building Code (CBC), which is based on the 2009 International Building Code (IBC)." http://www.bpelsg.ca.gov/applicants/refs.shtml

Seismic Principles Examination Reference Material: "2012 IBC Structural/Seismic Design Manual, Volume 1 and 2 Code Application Examples and Building Design Examples" http://www.bpelsg.ca.gov/applicants/cerefs.shtml

Good catch. I am fairly confident that starting Spring '14 the Seismic exam will be based on the 2012 IBC / 2013 CBC / ASCE 07-10. It seems to me that perhaps the board just hasn't updated the wording in your first link. We could contact them and let them know of the conflict/error and I'm sure they'd fix it. I have done that before. Maybe Ric can confirm that that the new exam will be based on the latest IBC/CBC? I heard the exam is making the switch in 2014 from a member here who contacted the board directly and asked. Also, note how Hiner and Ibrahim have discontinued their 2009 IBC based books and are working on new 2012 based books due in January.

I agree with you Pt. I just noticed the Reference list was modified this afternoon. It may have just been done. I also just saw Ibrahim froze his manual until January.

I would like to thank all the engineers who replied it, actually I am preparing for Lateral SE. After I could not find this book based on IBC 2009,I contacted the author of this book Steve Hiner and he sent me one. He was extremely helpful and this book appears great to learn seismic. Thanks gain to everyone.

JMT and ptatohed, thanks for noticing this. As you have guessed, we are right in the midst of deciding how we are proceeding in regards to the new CBC which includes updating the web site. I'll pass along to the exams group.

Thanks CAPLS!! I told the following by someone at CA BPELSG the following:

The spring exam will be based on the 2013 CBC, ASCE 7-10 & IBC 2012.

Unfortunately, the 2013 CBC does not have provisions for the wind & seismic. This will require that you also have:

Special Design Provision for wind & Seismic, 2008 Edition, AF & PA SDPWS – 2008.

The website will be updated by next Wednesday to reflect this.

J, you should not need to purchase a separate SDPWS. Anything you need from that book should be included in a good Seismic review book (Hiner, Ibrahim).

All you need is a primary Seismic review book, CBC, and ASCE7 (and you may not even need the CBC and ASCE7 if your review book includes the needed excerpts). And, as many practice questions as you can get your paws on.

Typo on my comment above. 'I was told the following by someone who works for the California Board'

Ptatohed, I know the Ibrahim book would cover the wind and seismic; his last review book (and Dr. Ibrahim) was a massive help on my Seismic Exam this October. I just wanted to post what the April Exam will be based on.
