Honestly the SEC had a pretty bad year....Auburn in particular had disturbing QB evaluation problems. To have Sean White playing in the SB and he reinjures his shoulder after a 15 yard pass makes you wonder about what was going on in practice. It became hard to watch with Franklin III since he cannot pass the ball. The defense played their heart out for a half and just seemed to lose heart in the second.
Already saw the internet plastered with "see, Penn State should have been in the playoff!" Uh, no. Giving up 51 points to a non top 10, non-PAC 10 champion team is not deserving of a playoff berth.

But getting blanked by Clemson is? I can understand giving up 31 to Clemson, but they aren't exactly known for their defense.
Based on regular season performance, yes. If you want to discount records and who beat who, no. I never thought their offense was good enough to be there, and as the playoff shows, thought there was a huge gap between the top 2 and the rest of the field, so it was all a crapshoot anyways.
If Alabama plays like they did against Washington, Clemson is going to win.

I'm going to go for the underdog and deviate from my normal SEC "homer" self and pull for the Tigers, - mainly I feel like I owe it to a few girls I dated that went there..
But my feeling is that Clemson probably put all their energy into the OSU game (which apparently wasn't needed) and Alabama overlooked Washington and probably didn't play 100% and will annihilate Clemson..
I am sure no OSU homer will agree but I think their play really showed that they just don't play near enough quality opponents in the season, other than their local rivalries when someone punches them in the mouth its hard for them to adjust..
But my feeling is that Clemson probably put all their energy into the OSU game (which apparently wasn't needed) and Alabama overlooked Washington and probably didn't play 100% and will annihilate Clemson..

They scheduled Oklahoma deliberately to make the out of conference schedule harder, but its tough to do. They also have to forecast who is going to be good about three years in advance to do that, which isn't easy. I wouldn't say Ohio State isn't good at coming back when they get punched. They should have been down and out in both the Wisconsin and Michigan games, but their defense really keeps them in it. They do not have the offense to come back when they are down by more than two scores, and that is the real issue. Their defense has outscored their offense in tough times this year, and with Malik Hooker declaring for the draft, that can't/won't happen next year. Their play calling this year was terrible. They have an entire string of WR's with 4.4X 40's, all over 6 foot, yet most of their passes are laterals or behind the line of scrimmage. They have a power RB, yet they call the same stupid reverse play with Curtis Samuel 9/10 times, who should be streaking downfield. They were putting 60+ pts/game up with Tom Herman. The past two years, their offense looked like it was straight out of a middle school playbook.
They have already taken the first step to fixing their woes as of this morning - Tim Beck is now gone, and has been replaced with the SF 49ers QB coach. Warriner is next. I really hope they DON'T go after Chip Kelly for OC.

Over the past few hours, looks like they've made more changes. They hired Indiana's former head coach Kevin Wilson as their new OC. The latter may not sound like a great hire, but he took a TERRIBLE Indiana team with a 56th ranked offense into the upper 20's in overall ranking and two bowl games, and averaged close to 300 yards/game passing. He was also Oklahoma's OC for about 10 years (including the Sam Bradford era), and won the award for top assistant in 2008. He left Indiana after the school thought he was too hard on the players and had a "gruff demeanor."
I guess as long as Wilson isn't beating the OSU players he'll be fine.
OSU deserved to be in it looking at the field based off of their record in the regular season. They just didn't show up and Clemson definitely did when it mattered. I think Clemson has a decent shot, they were in it last year and went toe to toe with Bama. Should be a good game.

Heck of a game!!!!! Am glad I did not go to sleep when it was 0-14 Bama. Told my son that one more Bama score and am going to bed. Instead watched the whole game. Glad I did.
Only watched a small portion from the gym, but from what I did see, even when in the lead, Alabama looked flat. Their rushing game looked OK, but defense didn't look great until they forced some fumbles, and their freshman QB looked like a true freshman.

I'm not even sure where I've been.
But the only thing I would have added to this thread this year would be that WVU was not a great team, and I'm very proud of them for going 10-3, considering I wondered if we'd get 6 or 7 wins. We won all the games we should have, all the close games, and totally got beat down by the teams that we weren't supposed to beat.
I love that Penn State was back and relevant. They played "above themselves" all year too.

if found to be true, they will basically get something close to the death penalty. or the death penalty itself.
look what the NCAA did to Penn State (way overboard in my opinion) and NONE of the football players at Penn State knew anything about it. This would be much different, as it is implying a culture among the football players.
