    2-day NCEES Structural Exam

I haven't posted on this forum in ages... Thanks to Structural Ninja for adding me as a friend; thus, sending me a notification and making me curious as to what is going on here these days. Glad to see most of the regulars are still here. For me, I didn't pass the WA SEIII, was a bit pissed off...

how to pass NPPE test in Canada?

The National Professional Practice Exam is basically the ethics exam... It's a 3 hour long closed book exam with 100 multiple choice questions (some provinces make you write an essay as well). You can expect to find questions about the "Act" (i.e. just like your state's...

    Christmas Bonus

Hey Buff, Well, I still have a job, which is nice. Got a paycut earlier in the year and got a raise at Xmas here, but still a bit short of my original salary. But overall things are fine here. Our recession is not as bad as what I hear is going on down south with you guys. Although, lots of...

    SE II Practice Problems

I second the NCEES sample exam. It is a great example of the questions' format and difficulty. From what I've seen, I would expect all seismic design questions to be SDC D and nothing higher... If they do give you an SDC E or F they won't give you a question that involves a lot of detail...

    SE II Study Books

For timber design I highly recommend "Design of Wood Structures-ASD/LRFD" by Breyer, Fridley, Pollock, and Cobeen. http://www.amazon.ca/Design-Wood-Structure...r/dp/0071455396 I didn't use the book to study with when I did the SEII as I mainly went with the SERM and the NDS 4-book package, but...

    So.................???????????

I'm just glad to have my life back... Can't say I feel totally confident that I passed the exam. I'll have to wait until February for results... Until then I am going to do some of the things I day dreamed of doing when I was studying...

    Masonry Radius of gyration

1993 definitely won't be the 5th Edition. I think the 5th came out in 2005 or 2006. But it is not like the radius of gyration will change with each revision of the code... Masonry blocks are pretty much standard in size and have been for many years...

    SEI Exam Strategy

I generally go in sequence and only skip the questions I know will take me more time than normal to answer or the ones that I am absolutely clueless on and know I will be digging through my references to find the answer..

    Foundation Overturning

I recently designed a shallow foundation with a overturning FS of 6.... I originally had it at 4, but the client was still a bit worried and asked me to make it a bit bigger, so I did. Actually, they did complain a bit about the quantity of concrete required (27 cy) and I said I could reduce...

    Hotel Recommendations - Tacoma WA

I'll be visiting lovely Seattle and Tacoma in the next few weeks to write the SE exam. The exam is located in the Tacoma Convention & Trade Center. Can anyone recommend a hotel nearby that is modestly priced? I'll be renting a car and parking at the convention center, so I don't mind a bit...

Seismic Weight and Tributary Wall Heights

All in all William's books do do the job. But you would think a little more effort would be put into finding errors and making statements more clear. Seeing as these are books written soley for the PE exams. Does he/his publishers not think that people are going to pour through these books in...

Seismic Weight and Tributary Wall Heights

I think Williams is an idiot that just paraphrased a bunch of other text books to create his wonderful error-filled series of PE exam books and has no idea what he is talking about. Every now and then I come across something in his books that really annoys me. This week it was in reference to...
