    Poll: Which engineering branch...

What about aerospace engineers? I know many, and some are great while some are definitely extra-nerdy too. Rocket scientists get stereotyped for being kooky and nerdy for a reason, right?

How do you study and learn?

For the P.E. exam... Like everyone else, I worked lots of problems. But I tried to be methodical about it, so I studied a lot in the following way: 1. First I read the background and theory and then read through any example problems. 2. Next, I worked out and wrote down those exact same...

    World Cup Efficiency

So many people at my office were live streaming the USA/Algeria game and slowing down the whole network that we got an email from our IT department asking everyone to stop. :-p It's not hurting my work TOO much. I would only stream the USA games and an occasional other game. I have it on in...

Electrical Engineering Technology EIT Looking for 1st Job

Are you focusing your search to specific types of electrical engineering fields? There's certainly a lot of government and intelligence-related work too (testing & evaluation, systems engineering, etc.), but you would likely need a clearance.

Environmental Engineer Career Question please help!

    1. Depending on the employer/client/work, there can definitely be a difference between environmental specialists/scientists/engineers. Don't forget, many employers will want to see if you're a good fit based on other credentials too, like your grades and course of study in your graduate...

Environmental exam is changing in 2011!!!!

Thanks for the heads up (FYI the link you provided is not working for me). I'm glad I already took the exam! I am curious what made them change it. Perhaps they saw the repeatedly high(er) pass rates and thought the exam was too easy?

    Civil, Environmental, Energy positions

Hey everybody, Sorry I wasn't able to respond to a lot of the follow-up posts and questions, but I stopped checking the EB boards for a while. I guess work got even busier after I got my PE! :) Anyway, my company is doing a push to actively recruit and hire again. There are TONS of open...

World Food Programme Vacancy - Civil Engineer

Work like this has always interested me. I'd be curious to get anyone's insight. Anybody on the boards (or have friends that have) ever worked for this organization, or other international development organizations (like the UN, World Bank, State Department, etc.)? I don't know any civil...

    RCRA, CERCLA Regulations

I agree... it is impossible to be 100% prepared for "every" possible regulation question. I remember some bizarre-o questions about requirements that would have required an ASTM manual for me to check, but apparently they throw a few of those random ones in the exam every year. I brought the...

    Please help

Don't mean to scare anyone, but I think I had to "come up" with the chemical equation for combustion problems. My advice would be to not overthink it and to save problems with stoichiometery for later. If you feel the problem will be a 15-20 minute one that you would still not be confident...

    Am I Nuts?

I might be in the minority but I don't think you're crazy. I say go for it if your family is not holding you back. I can actually relate some. I used to think I would end up in med school and I still sometimes wonder about it. I'm still pretty sure I'm not really suited to be a doctor (and...

Salary range (Civils 6-8 year with PE's ONLY)

Wow, and with Orlando's cost of living being relatively low, that's great! Do you do software coding and development and stuff?

    Random Rules

I took it in Virginia in April 09 and had no problems. I had written in pencil in almost every book I brought (partly because I hoped to resell a few books). You should be fine as long as you don't write in your references during the exam.

    Solid Waste Reference

Sounds like you're really prepared then! At this point, I think most folks are just starting their extra-panic mode... While I was often feeling SO ready to be done, when I was a month out I was probably was wishing for more time.

    Student from Schoolofpe - Environmental

Yeah. I had a lot of those in the morning session! I wish we could discuss these. Would there really be any harm done? Argh. :-p On another note, there were several seemingly straightforward problems in the afternoon as well, where I came to an answer fairly quickly... But I was so...

    Solid Waste Reference

In addition to LaGrega, I'd recommend the RCRA Orientation Manual as well. The former was a last-minute purchase for me (I got it in the mail a few days before the exam), and I'm very glad I did so. I'd say solid waste problems aren't so regulation-focused though, like the Haz Waste problems...

    Whats up from ATL

I'd definitely say go for it. Some people study only one month. Even if you don't pass, you strike me as someone responsible and who would be able to buckle down and study hard for the next few weeks.... I mean look how early you sent in your application! I'm sure you'd never have to take it...

How long did your PE application take?

It took me a lot of time over the course of a few months to finish my application. I had to get work history confirmation and/or references from 4 different employers - current employer, previous employer, and then 2 places where I co-oped. I already had close to 4 years without the co-oping...
