I don't think that's harsh at all. This was a completely different exam than it used to be, in a good way IMHO. I think with more studying I will ace the test in October and be a PE by Nov/Dec/whenever they end their fun torturing us with waiting on results. Thanks for sharing your results tho I haven't seen a 60 so mid 50's was probably very close for this particular exam.I would try to shoot for 80/80 when you're studying.
I know that seems ridiculous/harsh, but especially now that it is no longer breadth + depth on the mechanical exams I think the expectations might be higher. If you go into your prep thinking "I can afford to miss these topics that I am not very good at" then you leave no margin for minor errors (missed unit, fat finger calculator) on the topics you are good at.
