Wind blown silt.

By the looks of the way the bucket cut thru it looked clayey

It does look clayey. Actually there is some clay but it's almost all silt. The consolidated silt acted like clay when I scooped it once I scooped it out it fluffed up.

Lots of that stuff here in NJ. North NJ silty, clayey loams. South NJ sandy. Amazing the stark differences.
