I’m excited to join this forum as a student currently pursuing my studies in mechanical engineering. I’ve always been passionate about understanding how things work and solving real-world problems, which is what drew me to this field. As someone still exploring the vast opportunities in mechanical engineering, I’m here to learn from experienced professionals and connect with like-minded individuals.

I’m particularly interested in areas like machine design, thermodynamics, and design engineering and would love to hear advice on how to gain practical experience, excel in academics, and prepare for a successful career in the industry. Whether it’s guidance on internships, project ideas, or tips for navigating challenges in the field, I’m eager to learn from your experiences.

Looking forward to being a part of this amazing community and contributing wherever I can!

Welcome to the forum. I also got my degree in mechanical engineering. I also pursued a career path in machine design and had internships at Lexmark printers. I also had a summer internship at a Japanese glass manufacturing plant. I thought I would go into manufacturing and I knew some things about it since my dad was in the field. Events led me elsewhere though, and I've now spent most of my career in electrical design for MEP construction firms.

My advice to you would be to reach out to as many engineers in different fields as you can. Pick their brains and try to get honest feedback regarding the nature of work, the workplace culture, salary/benefits, etc. I wish I had done this more during college instead of figuring out through personal experience what I liked and didn't like. Definitely take advantage of internship opportunities if you can.

It might surprise you that some jobs people hate are ones you might love, and vice versa. The reason I say reach out to as many people as possible is you never know when you might stumble on something that really grabs your attention you wouldn't otherwise know about.

Best of luck to you!
