The registration page on some of the states shows both computer testing and the old paper testing formats for writing the PE exam. What is the preferred choice by candidates. It also seems much expensive on the CBT. Responses appreciated

Most of them are only paper. Chemical is now CBT.  Unless you are looking at the FE page and not the PE page, those are all CBT now.  You don't get a choice, you take what your discipline is offered in.

Eventually all exams will be computer based. Chemical is the 1st one to switch over.

Nuclear is making the transition to CBT with the Oct 2018 exam.
