I borrowed all the books, so no expense there. I did spend $20 on a calculator as I didn't find the one from the FE until the night before the results of the PE were posted. :madgo: Anyway, only other expenses were the prep class at UW ($750 paid directly by my employer), $330 between DOL and NCEES fees, and then the commute to the prep class (est. $430 between driving - 140 mile round trip - and parking), $25 for the bottle of Rye Whiskey after the test, $7 for a dozen donuts for the office after I got the passing notice, $70 to commute to the exam site, and a package of ling cod fillets (caught from my kayak in Makah Bay - on the ocean side from Neah Bay) for my wife's aunt that let me stay at her place rather than get a hotel.

So $1632 and a package of ling cod. Of which my employer either paid for directly or reimbursed $1080, for an out of pocket cost of $552 (and a couple ling cod fillets).

I dropped about 2200 the first go round on asce classes, books, exam fees, more books, practice exams, and parking.

I'll be dropping another $250 to take hiner (splitting it) and $275 for the exam fee to pass seismic.

Spent $265 for the NCEES registration (which will be reimbursed). Bought a copy of the CERM for $150 from Amazon (which I will resell for approx. $100). Borrowed some materials from friends (only cost me a few gift cards). I still have to buy a stamp, etc.

Studied at home for a few weekends and passed for about $100, not too shabby. I did have to take a day of vacation

I passed in Virginia on the first try and my job covered the cost of the review class, the test registration, and the CERM. I had to purchase almost all of the other references listed for the construction exam. I'm glad I did, but it cost me around $1200.

It may sound pedantic, but unless you're one of the exceptional cases that a state board granted admittance without an ABET-accredited degree, the real cost of sitting for the exam is an order of magnitude (or two) above the sums listed in this thread so far.
