What do people do for work in rural Maine? (Sorry, I'm a dumb Californian).
It's a valid question tbh.

Maine Guides (hunting, fishing, kayaking, etc). The older generation is out of work since the mills closed down and that's all they knew how to do. Some folks live up and there and work from home (Boyfriend has a friend who makes a Boston salary in Forks ME). Drive down to Bangor or Augusta or Portland for work. Retail.

Community colleges are usually pretty easy going about people just taking "continuous learning" classes for personal growth. You can audit them to avoid any GPA and transcript issues.
Also CC are way cheaper.

The French class at the CC here: <400$. French at the college: 1000$.

I learned French first, and now my wife is helping me learn Spanish. They're both very similar. My interpretation is this: Spanish is definitely more applicable throughout most of the US, and French has a lot of silent (-ish) letters.
Dude imagine trying to learn English as an adult. I don't think I could do it. English is super weird.

This is my favorite quote describing the English language:

"English doesn't borrow grammar from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys and rifles through their pockets for loose grammar."

I don't know who said it first.

I speak French about as well as Joey. Je te flouppe Fli.

Also, I think Russian sounds super cool. Like, when spoken at an appropriate pace and clarity, it's so "smart" sounding. There's a reason the Soyuz rocket is still in use, crazy Russian engineers...
I assure you that it has nothing to do with how anglophones perceive the Russian language. It's finding a design that (mostly) works and sticking with it. If it aint broke don't fix it.

100% agree. I think it's also zany the Soyuz still runs on kerosene. I mean...that's just SO Russian (I say this with actual admiration).
