No, it's some shitty fluorescent light that you're supposed to shine in your face for 30 minutes a day.  I switched mine on about 5 minutes ago, so let's see what happens.

I don't think it gives you any vitamin D, so not really a susbstitute for sunlight.  I think it's something psychoogical about bright light in your face being necessary to properly trigger your internal clock.  Or some shit like that.
