Problem 80: without the given hint and from all the conditions provided, I think I would like to use Rankine theory to solve it. Can the Rankine theory be used for this problem?

Problem 86: to get the height, h, of the pivot point above the bottom tip of the bulkhead, the solution use the method by comparing the area. I think it’s not correct. It seems like below the cut line, the active force and the passive force would get balance [a]. If this step in the solution changes to 839/(15-h)=3760/h, it would be more reasonable .

To get the tensile force in the rod, the resultant active force and the moment arm need to be changed accordingly. Does anyone tell me whether my understanding is right or not? Thank you.
