I have the 5th edition handbook but the latest one is the 6th edition, how critical is this? Would there be huge differences??

Well I ended up buying it because I'm absolutely paranoid with my luck their would be 4 questions from it.

So, k9, are there significant differences between the 5th and 6th editions? Even though I passed without the ITE Traffic Engineering Handbook, I did just get a free copy of the 5th edition. Just curious how different the 5th and 6th editions are. Looking at the handbook now and thinking back to the exam, it might have been helpful on a few problems but certainly not critical. Did you use yours on the exam? Thanks.

Actually there are some differences but nothing earth blowing. I didn't even open the book up once during the pe but I did use it the first time I took the test in the fall. I did feel that the 6th Ed was needed for the fall because surprisingly they have different content.

I know that a lot of the trip generation equations have changed ... since the data set has been expanded between the editions.

Its a risk you take for possibly 1 or 2 questions. I felt it was important enough to spend money to buy it because I wanted to pass it. I did pass the test but didn't use it on my second attempt. I actually had both 5th and 6th edition with me at the test. I'm selling mine in the yard sale forum if anyone is interested. Basically new condition.

Can anyone provide a link where the online pdf versions are available?

As mentioned, (1) the ITE Traffic Engineering Handbook is no longer needed for the exam and (2) it is not available for free in PDF format.

I think he's talking about the two references in post #9 that indicate that PDF format are available.

I see. I considered that too, but he can't simply go to FHWA's website to get them?

Him being too lazy to go look for them is an entirely different discussion. :dancingnaughty:

Thanks! I'm glad the new guy can start such a clamor. Where exactly do we start the discussion on how lazy I am? ;)

I don't either. You're not "teaching a man to fish so he can eat for lifetime". You're "giving him a fish so he can eat for a day".......

You're just the latest in a long line around here. I'm not picking on you in particular, but a lot of people come on here and ask for information that could easily be found if they just looked. I don't mind helping people if they make an honest effort to find it first. For the other people, I give them this link:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=FHWA+MUTCD - it's found about 2/3 the way down the page at the first link on the results page.
