How about developing a few talks you can give to professional organizations? and other firms?
Write a guest article for the news about some local issue.
Review past projects with current users and see how design and construction have held up. (Think carefully before you leap....you don't want to step into a mess.)
Do some product/technique research and come up with something to try soon.
Analyze business strengths, opportunities, areas to improve.
Do research on the local economy and local trends in construction.
Get to know and talk to government staff that let out design contracts - find out what's in the pipeline and prepare so you're ready. Ask questions like "What do the best proposals have in common?" "What gets noticed?"
Talk to contractors and learn what they're thinking about right now. Who have they noticed doing a good job lately? Who are the favored owners? Who are the best suppliers and why? What are lead times on popular products right now? Who seems busy/slow?
Research stimulus opportunities -- money may turn up in strange places.
Research local intern/staffing opportunities and learn how it works - our local university subsidized salaries 90% this year (75% is typical).
Doesn't sound like you need to use this info right now, but that will change.
