I'm glad Mr. TX doesn't read this board! He will be going in to have his machinery rendered inoperable in the very near future!
As for presents... I got Mr. TX a remote-control helicopter as a recent gift. HE LOVES IT!!! The only problem is that every time he crashes it, he's gotta go out to the hobby store and buy replacement parts... so, it can get very expensive very fast!
You see, this gets to the heart of male birthday presents, and why I hesitated to add my advice yesterday: Most men like expensive toys. For me, what I appreciate most is being given permission to buy something I have been interested in getting myself. Of course, if all you do is give a green light, you run the risk that your hubby will run out and buy a $12,000 motorcycle or something. But, if you give him cash and permission to buy whatever he wants, and to add up to say 50% additional out of his own paycheck, then you set the budget by default. For me, if my wife said "honey, you can spend $500 on anything you want", that would open up the possibility of getting any number of cool things I have had my eye on, but have been too afraid/responsible to pull the trigger on.

Of course, if you know what he's had his eye on, then you could just go ahead and get it for him. But if he's anything like me, he will have already researched the **** out of it, and you run the risk of getting something that's not quite what he wanted.

And if not, you can just try preparing for next year's:

I recall we had someone pose the exact same question a while back. My answer was that beer and a quickie will always be well received by any self-respecting male.

I agree with Dleg that guys usually like "toys". Women interpret that as like kid-grade toys, but we're talking about "professional" grade toys which are quite expensive.

like this neat male present

the helicopter sounds very cool.

^Whoa!!!! Does that thing actually run?? I've never heard of scale engines like that. That's pretty damn cool. Not to mention pretty damn expensive.

JR i'm sorry to hear about the divorce, sounds like its for the better, but they still make a train wreck of your life for a while. . .went thru one myself (my starter marriage), and it killed me at the time but was clearly for the better, all parties concerned.

B-day presents. . .. my kinda likey: Power f'n tools (love the smell of new power tools better than new cars)

A good bottle of rye or aged irish whiskey, a great night out for dinner, then better be havin a lil sumthin sumthin to cap it all off. that's usually the type of gift where both parties are mutually benefited (yessir!) :bananalama:

[Edit] oh yeah, my playground got fixed a year or so ago, can't lie its not a pleasant procedure - the worst is the shot (YEAH IN THE JUNK), and when that finally (mercifully) kicks in, its not too bad. Within a week, all system's were a-go-go.

Yes it actually runs. I think it's very cool. There is a video of it running on that site and it sounds pretty nasty.

they also sell it installed in a 1/4 scale AC cobra or a T-bucket (checkout the "products" section).

^^Seems like Hot Rod showed something like that a couple years ago. Looked cool.
