We usually hear about what to get the wife. What do you gentlemen usually think is a great gift to receive for your birthday? Mr. Snickerd was actually quite helpful knowing exactly what he wanted this year, but other times he is not as helpful.

I'd recommend meeting him at the front door with a glass of good whiskey while wearing something from the Fredrick's of Hollywood "Extra Slutty" collection.....

Freon P.E. with four kids....Now you know why....

Ditto Freon. I would love a birthday present like that. Or a weekend at the beach (making sure to pack to the Fredrick's of Hollwood "Extra Slutty" stuff). Two kids here but I am sure there will be another one running around soon.

You keep hanging around here for any length of time, and it's almost a sure thing. It's like drinking the water. Just read through the "expecting" thread.

<<< Here's my proof.

best gift I have ever gotten (aside from the “King Treatment”) has been Sirius (or XM ) Satellite Radio, if he doesn’t have it already

I am not going to disagree with the previous male posters - obviously I would be VERY MUCH in favor of the same thing!

However, I would be satisifed with a simple reciprocation of a 'thoughtful' gift - something that showed she took some interst in the things I was interested in and did a little work to find something. Even if it meant asking around to a few of my friends.

My glaring example of late:

When Mrs. JR received a promotion + salary increase - I bought her a huge ornamental flower arrangement, a bottle of her favorite wine, a pound of godiva chocolates, and a very nice card and had it delivered to her job (She likes that sort of thing - especially the attention it generates). It didn't matter to me how much it cost - I just wanted to do something memorable. When I received my PE promotion + salary increase at work (just a month later) she could barely muster the words "that's nice".

A little bit of thoughtfulness and attention goes a long way. Okay, so does the lingerie! :plusone:

This may be a question for snickerd and/or jregieng but what would be a nice something to get the wifey just because. No special occasion or anything.
One thing I found very nice and it wasn't bought...I was out of town for a few days and when I got home the hubby had cleaned AND vaccuumed several rooms in the house. I had even been dreading on the drive back about having to come home and clean. Needless to say he was well rewarded that evening ;) .

do you think she would go for the adult beverage Fredrick's of Hollywood greeting?
prolly not, huh?
Why not? There at least used to be a men's section at Fredricks. The brave confidence of male to dress like that has some alluring qualities to it. ;)

Thanks to all for your suggestion. I was kind of looking for a materialistic/physical type thing, but you did confirm that he will enjoy the other part of the present I was planning.

I need to get back to the kitchen and start shredding the carrots for his b-day cake.

I would definitely agree with snickerd on the chore/extra work or oftentimes Mrs. JR would have excessive soreness due to working long hours so I would rub her feet or massage her back but not push the :eyebrows: mojo - she really appreciated those things. I would also pick her up a meal, bottle of wine, chocolates or perhaps a small thing she might have mentioned she liked recently. I usually stayed away from flowers because the gift of flowers often felt trite to me ...

Those are my recommendations. For the record, Mrs. JR and I are going through a divorce but I don't think my 'just because' gift ideas are tainted. :)

I'm SkyWarp and I approve this message.

Dang, I hope it's not a sure thing (says the bachelor).

^^^ Don't worry ... I have been here awhile and I haven't slipped on past the goalie yet! :true:

But then again, I wasn't afforded many opportunities to do so these past few years. :bawling:

^^^^ It hasn't affected me, either. But, my factory is old and the equipment is obsolete.

Sorry to hear about your divorce man. At least you don't have kids. Sounds like you are better off now.

I slipped a couple past the goalie in the past two years but the results have left little time for ever slipping another one by. Hopefully the previous goalie has been replaced. She was terrible.

^^^I slipped on past the goalie and now he is 3... I managed to slip another pair past the goalie and now have 4 month old twins. My wife plans on getting a better goalie.
