Can someone please post their diagnostic report for water resources depth exam....I am just curious to determine the approximate cut score...i took the exam in california and still waiting to get my results....
I hope u r seeing OK since I look couple of posts above yours and I see the Water Resources depth diagnostic (though wrongly sent to the person). The diagnostic is still valid, with a raw score of 47/80 and scaled score of 68.

This is strange, I took the civil PE exam, with a structural depth afternoon and failed with a score of 68. I recieved my diagnostic report today and it's for civil with a water resources and environmental depth??

Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening? I wonder if theirs a chance my test was graded wrong and maybe I actaully passed? I left a message with the board and hope to get this cleared up on Monday. I don't want to get my hopes up or anything but maybe I still have a chance!

BY the way, I checked (and double checked) to make sure I filled in the "structural bubble" when it asked what section I wanted to take in the afternoon...we'll see.

Just thought I'd post this hear to see if anyone had any opinions on what might have happened between now and Monday.

I looked at my ID# on my diagnostic report and the ID# that was on my exam authorization form and they are different which leads me to belive that they just sent me someone elses diagnostic report instead of mine. I have a VERY common name so I'm thinking that it's just another guys with the same name.

If that is the case their's a good chance that I may in fact have gotten a 68 (failed) and just recieved the wrong report, instead of what I was hoping had happened, that being that they missgraded my structural depth against the water resources and environmental depth answer sheet.

I don't know, what's even worse is that I forgot today was a holiday for most people so NCEES and TBPE are not workign today, so I guess I have to wait another day to talk to someone. :waiting:

I talked with the state board today, she said many others have called in with the same problem and she's not sure exactly what happened but somehow a lot of diagnostic reports got mixed up and were sent to the wrong people, apparently the one I got was someone elses. She did inform me though that the grade on the cover sheet was correct, which means I still failed.

She said they were working on getting it all straightened out and they should be sending the new (correct) reports out this week...more waiting...very frusterating...

I dont know what are you talking about the wait, at least you know ur score. in california we are still waiting for our results. THATS frusterating.

I agree, I really shouldn't be complaining, you guys have it much worse having to wait this long just for your pass/fail information...good luck, and i'll stop complaining...at least for a little while!

yup. 46/80 raw is 68 scaled, which seems pretty low, but good for test-takers. This is with Structures depth, for others also I would assume that approximately 60% raw will equate to passing score. 24 in morning is low, you should try to improve that aspect in next try. All the best.

50/80 can be 68% also...1 question doesn't mean 1%...

can someone who took Water Resource depth (PM) please post your diagnostic report?

I'm still waiting for my results from CA...thanks.

you only had 19 correct in evening, which is kinda low. and u r right, u need to brush up a lot of things, especially loading, analysis, mechanics of material an member design. if you practice structural engineering, these should be pretty basic for u.

I haven't been paying attention lately, but are those grades reported or calculated? If reported, are they raw? I ask because the average of the breath is just under 68 and it's half the total. I don't know what the distribution of your depth is, but with no score above 60, you couldn't be above 64.

Here is what it says below the diagnostic report I originally posted...I don't fully understand what your meaning by reported, calculated, and raw...I guess the ones I posted would be "reported" because that's what they "reported to me, but they had to have been calculated by someone as well so I guess they could be considered calculated also?...or raw maybe, not sure, again I don't understand what your definitions of those three words are. Hope the following paragraph clears things up.

"The diagnostic provided to candidates that fail a NCEES multiple-choice exam is provided to assist the failing candidates in evaluating their performance. It only provides relative performance on the knowledge areas listed on the exam's specification. It is not intended to provide scoring information. NCEES only provides pass/fail information and no longer provides a scaled score to the failing candidates.

I meant to ask how you could come up with an overall 68 when the details imply less than a 64. What do the details imply about a raw score? How does such a raw score compare to 68?

u may find a lot of threads related to the raw score (what you can calculate based on the percentages in each subsection) and the reported (scaled) score. for the above report, the raw score is 46 (27 morning, 19 evening) and the scaled score is 68 as the guy told. there is no direct correlation, but u need a scaled score of 70 to pass.

How could there not be a direct correlation between the scaled score and the raw score? If there was no direct correlation how would you come up with a scaled score. That means that everyone that failed would receive a score of 69. Makes no sense. 70 is passing. I believe that anywhere in the range from 48-50 for the civil-structural was the passing score since a scale score of 68 resulted in 46 proplems correct. Texas and Virginia results would give you a good educated guess on what number of problems were needed in order to pass the exams. Other states either give you the scaled score or a diagnostic report where one can determine the number of problems answered correctly.

Looking at the numbers, the scores in the morning look like they may be multiples of 12.5% whereas the depth scores are multiples of 20 except for Member Design where it's a multiple of 10. Looking at the test plan, all of the depth topics cover 12.5% of the exam except for Member Design which is 25%. So no once can be certain if the scores are raw or scaled. Also, how can a score of 68% be achieved unless the scores provided were raw and then scaled to 68%. But as anyone who's taken the exam knows that the questions are not equally distributed. Out of 40 questions in the breadth exam, there may not be an equal number of questions for each topic (8 per topic) and I'm sure the same circumstance applies for the depth exam, so the scores may be weighted differently.

So the true question is "How much of an improvement would be required to pass the exam?" If the SMITHRJ40 answered 3 or 4 more questions correctly for the entire exam, would he/she pass the exam?

The other question would be "How confident was SMITHRJ40 after taking the exam?"

Anyway, the diagnostic should be enough to determine areas of improvement. In CA, they don't reveal the scores, but give qualitative remarks for each topic and just a "pass" or "fail" when you receive the letter.

How could there not be a direct correlation between the scaled score and the raw score? If there was no direct correlation how would you come up with a scaled score.
There's a correlation but it is not necessarily linear. Have you ever taken the SAT exam? The raw score has absolutely no linear relation to the scaled 200-800 score.

This is the report on my 2nd exam on Oct. 23, 2009. Score 64/70, and I was pregnant with my 2nd child, so not a lot of effort in studying, and I missed the 3rd attempt since I gave birth just a month before the test given. If I don't pass the April test, I have to wait at least a year before giving permission to take the exam again, with more paperwork, of course.

Diagnostic Report on Power:

General Power Engineering: 42% correct

Circuit Analysis: 50%

Rotating Machines & Electromagnetic Devices: 62%

Transmission & Distribution: 54%

I think he meant "64" (not 64%). That is the old scaled score, which is still provided in Texas and Virginia. It is not a percentage, and as far as I know has no linear relationship to percentage. 70 (not 70%) would be passing. A "64" could mean 55%, or it could mean 67%, nobody knows. If you aren't in Texas or Virginia it won't make sense, so don't worry about it.

Once again, it's like an SAT test. A 600 obviously doesn't mean 600%. It means a different percent each time the test is administered, and it is not a linear relationship.
