Call VA DPOR as some results were held up and I assume it could be due to the take home exam.
I am waiting on my diagnostic results and grade. I started studying last night.

Does anyone know how many times you can take the PE in VA without having to re-submit an application or take more engineering classes? The fall will be three times.
I believe the limit is 6 times but that's only because after 3 years you are required to re-submit your application. I'm not 100% positive about that though.

swamie & le.boot,
Do you mind telling me which module you took? I took power and would like to know if there additional reference material I should be looking into. Thanks.
I took the power module as well. First and foremost...the NCEES study guide. I thought that Machines, Drives, and Power Systems book by Wildi was a big help. I also had an old Engineering Economic Analysis book from college that helped me out on a couple problems. There were some topics I didn't have good references for such as those symmetrical delta/wye analysis problems, so I printed out a couple threads from this site...and I'm so glad I did. I also had bought that expensive MGE PE Readiness course (it has breadth/depth so there were only a few sections that still applied), but didn't actually do it, but there were a few pages that were really helpful in regards to motors.

PM me if you want additional info. I work as a consulting engineer, so a lot of the NEC, lighting stuff was really familiar.

pardon my ignorance, but what is this rules take home exam? Took the PE in april and have never heard of this.

Thanks for your reply, I'll look into those books. I also work as a consulting engineer and felt that I did very well on the NEC and lighting questions. I certainly hope I did but I guess I'll find out when I receive the diagnostic report. Thanks again.

When applying, the boards mailed me a rules and regulation exam. Approx 30 questions which are easy. Not sure if everyone has to take it. I got it while re-extending my 3 years.

I got that exam when I registered last summer. It was the final piece to the registration process.

I have not gotten my mail from DPOR yet.
Got my letter today...67...I flopped hard in Geotech..I didnt know they gave you a diagnostic report...Seems helpful...already bought new set of books...ready for round 2.......Octobers not that far away now...

I just checked the mail and no DPOR letter. Maybe I'll get it tomorrow.

Do the mailed results (If passed exam) say anything important, like continuing ed requirements, etc? I ask because DPOR won't have gotten my change of address request in time, so I don't think I'll receive the mailed results...

Got my letter on Saturday as well - I took Environmental.

67 is frustrating close - Good luck with the studies.

I honestly am not sure.

I got my letter from DPOR on Saturday, and it had a cover letter and a copy of the license. The cover letter said there was an enclosure about stamping and some other regulations, but there wasnt anything else in the envelope.

Did anyone else have this same problem?

I didn't really read the letter closely because I was on my way out, but now that I think about it- yeah, I didn't have anything else in the envelope aside from what you mention.

This is the first I've heard of Virginia having a rules / regulations take home test. Also, first I've heard of Virginia issuing a license for three years. What exam did you take?
To the best of my knowledge, Virginia issues licenses for 2 years at a time. I'd like to hear more about this.
I also had the rules/regulation test for the application last year.

I believe what the other poster is referring to is the time frame in which you are allowed to take the exam after having your application approved. If you fail, you can take the exam as many times as it is offered in those 3 years, and you won't have to re-submit your whole gigantic PE exam application (with references, job history, transcripts, etc.).

There is a take home Rules and Regulations exam that was supposed to be mailed to you. (I suspect however that this step may have been overlooked because I never received one in the mail.) Some test results are being held up because of this when I called DPOR this morning. If you speak to the licensing specialist very, very politely they might throw you a bone if you get my drift.....

They will not release licenses, NOR POST YOUR NAME TO THE WEBSITE, if you have not submitted this test. The letters were mailed out yesterday so keep hanging in there! It's never over until it's over.

Thanks for EICid03's information. I would like to say for those who have not received anything from VA state board. Don't panic.

I experienced the same situation (received nothing, 0 result from DPOR website). I called in yesterday for status and today I got call from DPOR saying I passed and license will be mailed out tomorrow, and the website database will be updated tomorrow morning.

well i never took that rules and regs exam so i guess there might still be hope for me. Just when i was beginning to accept having to take it again I get sucked back into waiting. Any confirmation on the DPOR update or snail mail yet?
