Hi, I have worked in Bridge Design for five years now. Just passed PE, SE I and II.

I did lots of steel and prestress design.

Is there any chance you think I can switch to a building or energy facility design area?

I switched from Civil early in my career to Mechanical (machine design); recently got my PE and going back to Civil.

I think your switch is easier.

Thanks. So which area you think might be better in terms of career satisfaction and salary.

I am kind of a little bored at the bridge design. I am working with a medium firm and medium salary. Most of the jobs are rehabilitation jobs and very similar. Plus I need to spent lots of time to deal with public agents. A lot of paperwork like permits, proposal change, scope change... All kinds of politics reasons changed job progress all the time. I am just thinking I am wasting my time dealing with these instead of doing some real technical work.
