    Railroad Bridge Analysis and Rating

So it is pretty much the same. We also input customer live load in Merlin Dash to get the live load results. We had some work with Railroad before but mostly inspection and rating of overpass bridges using highway loads. It is a good opportunity to really get familiar with AREMA now. There are...

    Railroad Bridge Analysis and Rating

Hi, Thank you so much for the response. We used Merlin Dash and Staad for steel bridge analysis. However they cannot handle any railway code related design. Merlin Dash has code checking for AASHTO, it is very handy for highway bridges but not railway bridges. I need to figure out rating for...

If I have SEI and II will I be able to register in the states do not currently require SEIII like Illinois, Nevada? It seems the new exam will cover more stuff as CA and WA will adopt it. Thanks

    WA State SE III

Looks like there are bridge contents as well. But still not sure it is the same as California SE III. I heard before it is called west coast structural exam?

    WA State SE III

Congratulations! I don't know much about SEIII. If passed WA State SEIII, can you transfer to California? Is WA SE III one exam or with building and bridge options like SEII.

    Structural III examination

Hi, I noticed California, Washington and Oregon have the SEIII Exam, are they same? If I take it in Washington, can I transfer to California later on? Thanks

    NJ PE-Comity

NJ is slow. And service is not that good. Two coworkers of mine lost reference letter with them. Be prepared for long waiting, back and forth.

Bridge Horizontal Shift! A real case study for suggestion!

Hi, I have a 2- span box steel girder bridge here. 250' for each span. After it was built in 2006, the neoprene bearings at the abutment and pier developed a transverse movement of around 1.5". Basicially the entire bridge moved sideway. The deck cross slope at central pier changed about 0.5%...

    Illinois SE Requirement on TOEFL

One more thing about the TOEFL, the requirement for spoken English is 26 if I am not wrong. That is ridiculous requirement. Not sure if they will lower this standard based on experience.

    Illinois SE Requirement on TOEFL

I just emailed the board. The TOEFL exam is required if all courses are not taught in English. They also told me that they count experience before and after the SE exams. So it is not possible they will ask the applicant to retake the SE.

    Illinois SE Requirement on TOEFL

Was anyone required to take TOEFL test by the Il SE Board. I don't have US undergraduate degree, it is not very clear on their instruction if US master degree will help or not. Recently I also asked the NJ Board, they have the similar requirement. But I was told if I have master degree the...

    Job Switch

Thanks. So which area you think might be better in terms of career satisfaction and salary. I am kind of a little bored at the bridge design. I am working with a medium firm and medium salary. Most of the jobs are rehabilitation jobs and very similar. Plus I need to spent lots of time to deal...

Question on NY PE Exam CIV and STR1

Hi, Kevo, What is the requirements to be licensed in NV as SE? Is it really a seperate tile or under civil PE. I checked some information from Illinois, sounds that they are very picky. Not only you need to pass SEI and II but also you need to follow their requirements to take SEI and II such...

    Job Switch

Hi, I have worked in Bridge Design for five years now. Just passed PE, SE I and II. I did lots of steel and prestress design. Is there any chance you think I can switch to a building or energy facility design area?

took practice exam - how did i do?

Good Enough. If you can keep the same performance during the exam.

    Bridge Design Book

I don't like that book. A lot of mistakes, especially in the prestress concrete problems. Use examples from PCI Design Manual and AISC References are much better.

    SE1 study guides

That is a very comprehensive book but based on older lrfd edition. You might learn the concept from the book depending how much time you have. Be careful a lot of design stuffs are different from the current edition.
