Which States besides CA require special exams for PE?

Just wondering which other states require additional exams besides the 8-hour to be a Civil Engineer? I passed the 8 hour a year ago and then passed the seismic, now waiting to hear on the surveying... But I always wonder if I lived in anywhere else, which places would I and would I not be a Civil P.E. already?

I always thought CA is the gold standard. Other states don't need to go as far as CA does (seismic reasons, obviously, they don't have to deal with the same things). If you hold a CA license, you can pretty much be granted reciprocity anywhere I think.

I think CA is the only state with extra exams anymore. And there's buzz that this may not be the case for much longer as the SE is a standard exam everywhere now and the requirements for superfluous exams to differentiate the CA state licensure is not necessary.

There isn't a state specific test in IL, but I am looking to apply for an IN license and they require each comity candidate to submit a short exam over the engineering board bylaws, Indiana license law etc...

Nothing compared to the CA specific exams.

Interesting. So Florida doesn't have any specific exams? As far as California goes, and I'm probably biased, I don't see the point of the surveying exam. We can't do much with it, might as well hire a licensed PLS. The seismic exam I understand.

Nope. IL has no ethics so testing for them would be hypocritical

I've never understood the point of testing for ethics anyway. Everyone KNOWS the right thing to do and should get 100%. Whether or not they practice ethics in their job is another matter.......

I've done a couple of those take homes. It's just look through the state statutes and answer the question. It's a way for the state board to come back at you in a complaint/disciplinary action when you use the "I didn't know that was a rule' defense.

WA State had a take home exam over the engineering laws for comity applicants. They even provided a link to the applicable code. Missouri had no such requirement (though I'm not sure if they do for comity applicants).

Arctic Engineering exam in AK . . .

It's not a separate exam, but a university class. Anyone can take the full semester class, or a 2 week short course to get thru it.

The short course is too compacted in my opinion.

I believe Washington and Oregon require this class as well; but I'm not certain.
