What references materials to use?

I am planning to take all three exams in April 2016. I do not practice Civil Engineering, been out of school and do not have any of the reference material for the exams. I know for the Seismic and Surveying exams there is a list of materials that you need to take the exam. I was wondering what materials are necessary and that one would need to pass the exam. I am planning to purchase some of the materials, but was recommended that I need the ASCE 7-10 and CBC. What else would I need since I heard not all the material is used. I am trying to purchase my material early and would appreciate the help.

It's quite possible you will not need to buy the ASCE 7 or the CBC. Check with EET. I think they may provide you with the few excerpts you would need from the ASCE and CBC in their workbook.

Don't worry about not having surveying experience. It's a very "principles" based exam. It's a lot of trigonometry, pretty basic math, hor/vert curve formulas, topo map reading, plan scales, bearings, etc. - mostly basic stuff. For the CA-Survey study material, you really only need one good book, and then as many sample problems as you can get. Your "one good book" can be either PPI's or the Civil Survey Workshop book (links in this thread: http://engineerboards.com/index.php?showtopic=25246). And then supplement that with as many practice problems as you can. You can buy CA-Survey preparation books with additional problems (like PPI's problems and practice exams) and/or you'd be surprised how much stuff you can find online for free (like the Caltrans LSIT/LS material and college Survey class material).

S24, you are welcome. For a seismic class, I'd highly recommend EET. http://www.eet-california.com/seismic_class_info Yeah, you can take a survey class or you can self study. I think the two leading books are PPI's Survey Principles and the Civil Surveying Workshop's Workbook. Then supplement your selected book with as many practice problems as you can. FOR SEISMIC, I ONLY USED HINER'S BOOK AND THE HANDOUTS FROM THE CLASS. YOU DONT NEED ANYTHING ELSE. JUST STUDY A LOT AND IT WILL BE EASY.

In a short and simple sentence save your time, save your time, and save your time. What I mean by this is more than money your time is precious and if you sign up for EET you will be sure to be prepared the first time whether your taking the 8 hour exam or the CA specific exams.
