When this story "broke" I immediately thought of the colored southern waitress who claimed that the customers wrote "none" in the tip line and wrote the "n" word on the total. So far she collected $10k from "supporters" and the customers (who admitted writing "none" because they had to take their food to go but didn't write anything else) have produced two handwriting experts that find the "none" and the "n" word were not written by the same person. The waitress has no response except to say that she'd give the money back but it's all spent.

Indeed. My only real comment when the story originally broke was that I hoped it wasn't a hoax. It tripped my "yeah, right" meter, though, so I was expecting this.

Hoax or not it's still screwed up. If people actually did write that, they are full of inflated so called moral superiority. Hey, if you don't agree with a person's life, that's your right, but if you receive a service from somebody working to make a living, and they meet your expectations for service, pay them. If it is a hoax, well, it's screwed up that one would victimize innocent people to make a statement and receive sympathy.

Whole thing is f-d up.
