I was a little underwhelmed when I received my wall certificate (California). It looks like something out of a laser printer. The folks here in Omaha mostly are Nebraska PEs. Their certificates are real nice. Much larger and have "old school" look to them. More like a diploma with a raised seal and all. I guess I shouldn't complain. I was hoping for a little nicer certificate for all that work.

Arizona's sucks too, not a very professional certificate, though it is for professional engineer

This may sound stupid, but how does the letter start out? "Congratulations.."?

Also, is it true that if the envelope is thick it means you failed (diagnostics) and if you passed it will be thin?

not necessarily. some states send a whole bunch of information on what to do next, where to send more $ etc for those who pass.

I just mailed a $15 check to Illinois for their wall certificate. Can any IL PE's confirm that it is worth it.

I hear some states have cheap looking certificates. Just something that crossed my mind on a slow friday afternoon.

So they charge $15. I dunno if I want to spend $15 for a fancy piece of paper, but I have not seen what IL sends out. Definitely scan it or describe so we know if it worth the Money.

Yea, $15 + the cost of the frame, it all adds up.

I have all of my PE certificates framed on a wall together, and will add the SE certificate when I get it. I have my EIT certificate still in the envelope that it came in, and it is on my bookshelf under my old college text books.

My EI license is sitting behind the PE license in the frame. They both are just a 5x7 computer printed piece of paper.

Scanned it, emailed it to HR for a raise, and have since then lost it....

IIRC, the letter had a standard business format: Date, My Name & address, then RE: PE Examination Results - PASS then went into the usual, Dear Mr Dex,... I don't remember what it said after that because I saw the results in the subject line and stopped reading.

Colorado's results have 2 pieces of paper regardless. Letter + "what's next" if you pass, Letter + diagnostic report if you don't. Both come in a standard business letter envelope.

<--- Didn't get a EI Cert. I got a letter saying I passed and that's it. I know I was one of the last groups to still get their scores announced (exam Dec 2002). I don't really know how it affected my job / pay as I got the EIT before I graduated and I went to work for a General Contractor who didn't care about engineering certifications and actually discouraged people from getting their PE's (they felt that once you got a PE you would be more likely to leave and work for a consultant / design firm).

I am also going to go with not necessarily as many states have gone to emailing results. To make matters worse, one attachment vs two is not necessarily bad. The emailing from Ohio came with one attachment for a pass and two for fail. We were kind of thinking the same thing would happen with Florida (one with pass/fail and two if a diagnostic was included). Turns out this was not the case. I got two attachments and my heart sank until I opened it up and it said pass. The second attachment was the schedule of what happens next and when we could expect PE numbers and certificates.

I also forgot to mention that starting with the October 2008 results, Colorado switched to an e-mail notification system. I don't know how those emails look as I got my results back in June 2008.

I do...here is what I recieved in my email. I've left the attachment names as they appeared. They were originally pdf's.

Edit: I thought the attachment names would come through. The first one is called "pass_fail_letter_for_100139453", and the next 2 were called "CO_Pass".
