Ah the old Precisions. That's actually probably still not a bad PC if it has one of the decent Xeon CPUs and a Quattro vid card. Probably just like you said though, so much garbage from other user accounts that it really needs a cleaning and/or re-image/format. Is that running W7 or Vista? A solid-state drive would also go a long way to improve performance. I was kidding about the defrag. Sounds like it needs much more than that. It's an 2010 Dell t5500 thats been a hand-me down fer the past couple of employees (& years). I don't have admin rights, and da IT folks don't know what I'm asking of them; so I spent about an hour trying to update something as a power user (didn't quite work right). Hopefully, I can get a co-worker that has admin rights on da machine to change my user group tomorrow so I can actually update the files I need to do my work. You have to defrag it! LOLYes seriously.
About to throw the office puter thru the window
What's it doing.....er not doing?
That and the server is having issues, so getting vetted files / programs is being a pain in da arse.
A defrag is just the start for what this machine needs. I'd like to do a complete wipe and clean install to get rid of all the crap thats been installed, but I know that'll never happen. Heck, it still has office 2k7, so I'm having to relearn it; then have been going home to 2010 & 2013!!! My request to upgrade to 2010 was denied.
How strict is your IT group? Would they care if you made yourself an admin? There are ways to circumvent being a "power user". However, the easiest way would be to have someone with admin rights log on and then change your user account from power to admin. Wait, this isn't XP is it?
