unfortunatly, this being a temporary assignment, it won't really get spent. My bills are paid for this month already, so I was going to take $100 and purchase a few key wardrobe items and then put the rest of it into my buffer account

i think that qualifies as spending wisely. even saving is spending in a way as you are doing something with it.
