what does symmetric vertical curve mean exactly?

does it mean g1 = -g2 ?

All complete VCs are symmetrical (despite the g1, g2). All it means is that the PVI is always at 1/2 L. An unsymmetrical VC is a partial VC. While common in "real life", I don't think you'll see partial VCs on the exam.
