Please post your suggestion for a type of retaining wall in an area with space limitation on steep slope (1:1) about 40' height.

Thanks

Need more info:

What options do you have for a layback area (right-of-way)?

What goes on top, and in front of the wall?

What are your cost limitations?

What is the desired wall finish?

Does it have to be one wall, or are multiple tiered walls acceptable?

Any concern with groundwater?

What type of soils are currently in place?

What utilities exist in the area?

I'm sure there are more questions out there, but these are a few key ones to be answered to get things started.

My gut feeling with the limited info so far would be a series of tiered MSE walls. But this assumes you have the $'s for the expensive shoring system needed for construction, about 30' of open ROW behind the wall for the straps (1:1 slope that's 40' high, so the straps would be within that sloped zone), and you're not puting anything substantial on top of the wall (like a skyscraper).

Tnx for suggestion. Space limitation at toe w/ creek & shallow rock is one of the main issues. And road is running on the top of the slope w/ erosion problem. Fund is also a consideration.
