If it's only vibrating when he brakes, then it can't be an unbalanced wheel or mud. It has to be the brakes. And in my rudimentary knowledge, the only thing that would cause that sensation is a warped brake rotor. Or perhaps something just got thrown out of adjustment with the pads. But I would definitely take it in to a mechanic - I don't think you will be able to see any warping by eye, looking under the car by yourself.

You don't want to be driving around with your brakes in anything less than perfect working order.

Month or so ago I was involved in my first "Accident". I was in the left of 3 lanes on the access road, about 250yds from the interstate entrance. When a cement truck begins to pull out onto the access road 200yds ahead. At first I assume he'll stay in the right hand lane, so I stop accelerating but I don't brake. Now about 150yds from the truck, its looking like hes going for my lane. As I get closer, its obvious he doesn't care I'm there, and my left tire catches the dirt as I move to the should to get around him. I slide sideways and wind up nose first in a shallow ditch. I look back, and see the cement truck driving right past me and onto the interstate. He never made eye contact, just stared ahead, and kept on going.

Two people followed him and got his truck number license plate etc.

The cop who took the report, said they have a problem with trucks at this site, because they can never get a break, so they just go, and hope people will stop. The cop got enough from the witnesses that stopped to go after him with "leaving the scene."

I wound up with a flat tire, and a misaligned suspension. The cement company is just about ready to pay all damages, so I won't be out any money. I have no idea if the driver got ticketed or not.

The company that operates that cement truck is like 2 miles from my office, I pass them every morning. I keep seeing all these cement trucks. I'm always on the look out for truck #501.

WTH.....That's an awful story. What in the hell is someone thinking to do something like that????

As far as the brakes, you probably need to take the car somewhere to have them looked at. It could be several things, but I'm guessing that you got mud into your brakes and it caused the calipers to not release like they are supposed to, which means when you're driving, they just keep getting hotter and hotter.....eventually warping the rotor. If you don't get that fixed, the problems will get worse.

I was in an accident that kind of relates.

I was driving to work doing about 65 mph, it had stopped raining about 45 minutes prior, when I hit a puddle of water and hydroplaned; the truck turned 90 degrees and smashed into the center median. It was like the hand of god reached down and turned my car; I didn’t turn the wheel or anything. I hit the median head on, at the front driver side corner. When I was about 270 degrees into the spin, my front tire driver side tire caught the road as the truck slid side ways, and rolled the truck over completely. I ended up doing one compete spin with a full revolution. I came to a rest facing the right direction, wheels down; there wasn’t a non-damaged panel on my truck. It was amazing, it happened so quickly; from my perspective, it was just like the NASCAR crashes. Then, I had some ******** that were upset that I was blocking traffic and honked at me. Amazingly, The only injuries I suffered were, a bruised knee (where it hit the steering wheel), and my forearms (from griping the steering wheel, total white knuckle ride). The funny thing is when the police showed up, the officer told me to drive my truck off the road. I told him, that I didn’t think it would drive, to which he responded “the truck is totaled, you’re not going to damage it any more, head towards the side of the road and step on the gas”. So, I started up the truck (still ran really well) and did a burnout all the way off of the freeway (I had to push the broken front end). It was a wild experience; I still get very nervous when I drive through water. The first time it rained after the crash, I drove down the freeway at about 35 mph (freaking out the whole time).

This what my truck looked like afterward.

A couple of years later, I am still amazed that nothing happend to me.

:true:

Many years ago, when my first son was just 11 months old, my wifey left home just in front of me to her job with the baby in the car seat(front passenger seat). I stayed behind closing the gate. There was a corner where she had to turn right and I turned left. When I reached that corner there was already an accident, a bunch of cars on the next corner and a police vehicle. I heard the siren of an ambulance leaving.

I decided to take a look to be sure that it was not her because I knew she just lef and I could not see the one of the cars involved. I froze when I saw her car all banged up and the right passenger door destroyed, the baby's car seat on the driver's seat and the window glass all shattered. I lost it and grabbed the police officer by his uniform, the only time in my life I have put my hands on somebody that way, and shook him..."How is the baby?...how is the baby?" ...I shouted. I took for granted my wifey was OK.( What a bad husband I am)

The officer just told me the name of the hospital they took them but no more. After he told me I just turned around and ran to my SUV and he went running behind me and grabbed me bofore I opened the door..."You have to stay here to help me move the car". I told him " Are you crazy?...You will have to shot me to make me stay"....and I left. He did not dare to try to stop me. I was a mad man at that point.

How about that for compassion my friends?...My father in law had the also unpleasant surprise to find the accident and the officer made him stay. The poor man was almost crying when he called me. Protect and Serve....yeah right!!!!!.

Thank God for the car seat. My son "only" had a few pieces of glasses that hit him in the face but no deep cuts. He cried for more than an hour, screaming, without stopping. A nurse gave him some water with something that relaxed him a bit. My wifey took a hard hit from the car seat and had the worst part of the deal. Her right arm and right leg were bruised.

The car was totaled but I did not care a bit about it.

Wow. All these stories make me happy that I live in a place where the fastest road has a speed limit of 45. Of course, lots of people still die here every year in car accidents, usually alcohol and speed are the factors. But most accidents at the lower speeds are not terribly damaging. Just have to avoid the drunks, and I am fine.
