Registration/Next Steps After Passing

I called the NY board today as the "next steps" link from NCEES just links to the info page about registering for the Spring exam. The lady on the phone said they don't even have the results yet and it will take at least 3 weeks.

Does anyone know what happens next in terms of the registration process? Can you officially call yourself a PE upon passing or do you have to go through some kind of registration process? Are there more forms/fees that have to be sent in to become registered?

I know in Indiana they need you to send in the letter of passing and another fee before you get your PE number.

until you have a license number from your state, you have simply passed a test.

I have the same questions. Do you need to call NYS and request your certificate? I assume there are more dues associated? Any idea how long it takes for your license number to be issued?

First we ***** about NCEES taking forever to release results, now that we have them we just ***** some more...

varies by state...which is another reason we get frustrated with new waitees because in most cases that is just that you passed, there is another round of waiting on the state.

also OP this is going to sound stupid, but make sure you keep scrolling down the web page. on the WA page there's a section at the bottom titled "After You Pass The Exam" that goes over the next steps.

In mass which is a pcs state, there was another two weeks of waiting for further instructions after we found out we passed. The instructions were basically how to pay for the license. It was another couple weeks before the wallet card was issued with the number. Then pcs said it would be another couple months to get the wall certificate which turned out to be only a couple weeks. I waited until I had the number before using the new business cards.

Last year Kansas didn't notify pass/fail until several days after Missouri, but they issued licenses immediatly. In Missouri they didn't issue license numbers until after the first of the year, so I found out several days early, but had to wait a couple weeks before it was "official." I was anxious for the wait to be over, but it was a much more relaxing wait not having to worry about taking the exam again. If your state waits to issue licenses, relax. It is by no means exciting to run out and start stamping drawings.

Another fee again for license number? i thought it was part of the exam & application fee.

Where does the board spend all the dollars they make from people giving the exams and from retakes? They give no free books, no free seals? no free codes? not a free meal on exam day either......Damn...

I'm also in MA and when I go to the PCS website and log in it says under the MechanicalExam"PASS". I'm very hesitant to celebrate until I get an email, letter or some other verification saying it’s true. Needless to say I didn't have high hopes for this exam.



Do you recall if PCS, NCEES or the State followed up within a reasonable number of days with something more official or is this all i'm getting for a few weeks?

In TX you have to get fingerprinted. I got that done and out of the way. There is another fee associated with that as well. Not sure about other states.

In NC it took about two weeks and I got a letter from the state board notifying me of the exam results. I was able to get my license number a little quicker off their website. It was updated about two days after the results were released from NCEES. I ordered my stamp as soon as I got my registration number. My stamp came before the letter. It took a little over three months to get my certificate which seemed like an eternity. At the very least I wouldn't call yourself a PE until your state board has your name on their website with your PE registration number. I'm cautious and don't want to deal with the board no more than I have to so I waited until I got a letter from the board before I began calling myself a PE and stamping plans.

I have a PE license number in Kansas but have yet to receive a pass letter. Makes me anxious.
