A freeway is located in rolling terrain, and has the following characteristics:

NB Traffic Volume: 2250 vph

Number of lanes in one direction: 2

PHF: 0.92

Trucks: 4%

Buses: 3%

RVs: 1%

The peak hour flow rate in pc/ph/pl for the NB segment is most nearly:

A. 680

B. 1257

C. 1359

D. 2718

Is it C. 1359?

Thanks for posting one, preparing for April.

In your opinion is this more likely to be an AM or PM problem?

This is a PM problem, but on the easier side. 2-4 minutes.

I'm actually writing problems for PPI, and you guys are my guinea pigs.

'C' is correct

HCM Eq. 11- 2

vp=V/(PHF X N X fhv x fp)

Where:

V=2250 vph

PHF=.92

N=2 (no. of lanes)

fp=1 (assume 1 unless otherwise stated)

fhv=1/(1+Pt(Et-1)+Pr(Er-1))  HCM eq 11.3

              Pt=.07 (Percent Trucks + Percent Busses)

              Et=2.5  (Exhibit 11-10 Rolling Terrain)

              Pr=.01  (percent RV)

              Pt=2.0   (Exhibit 11-10 Rolling Terrain)

Working the math gives vp≈1360
