Hi everybody

I am a Mechanical engineer working in California. I am looking to get a PE license. I have a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3 years work experience. Unfortunately i do not know any PEs who could vouch for me. Is there a way around this like i can ask my director of engineering/or my supervisors to recommend me???

I appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks

Harry

they are your bosses. If they know you (I don't know how big your hierarchy is) that should work. After all, your uber-boss should know if you are a succesful engineer or not.

Your reference doesn't need to be someone who sits in YOUR cubicle all day and watches over your shoulder.

As for recommendations, it all depends on what state you're in. Some are hard lined and others are not. Personally, I have never worked for a PE (or with for that matter until 2 years ago) and all of my references were non-PEs.

Definitely depends on your state. Some require 5 PE's as references, and all of your work must be working for one of them. Some only require the PE's as reference.

Do you work for the govt? If so, your references do not have to be from PEs.

Thanks guys for your answers.

I do not work for the govt. I live in California. Every time i call the board to clear my confusion, i leave a message but no one calls me back.

Does any one know about the PE reference requirements in California.

Thanks

Try calling all of the numbers listed, not just the one designated for your last name. I had a question on a form and had to call them all because I never got a call back despite leaving messages for the person assigned to my letter of the alphabet.

Thanks everybdy....i just found out that i just need to show my one year of experience and references from non PEs are accepted..but unfortunately for me the deadline just passed so i have to wait till October now.
