PE Civil- AM part- What to study

Hi

I am planning to go after PE civil- Construction(PM).

I am confused on what to study and how much in detail. As of now, I am starting with these two books:

1> Lindberg CERM

2> Lindberg Practice problem

Do I need to study any other books? Maybe 6 min solutions....

Now my confusion is how much in detail do i need to study on all topics for AM part? It seems there is bunch of stuff not revelant for AM? (correct me if I am wrong)

Any guidance? Help me to get started!

i suggest 6 min. i am studying it for geo right now and it is really good

i also definitely suggest a construction specific study book, as well as the references mentioned in the site i mentioned above. i was first considering construction until a couple weeks ago and bought them and although i dont need anymore, they are really informative it seems

Yes, you need those books and yes there is way more material in the CERM than you need. Also don't make the mistake of trying to study from the CERM. It is a reference book not a study guide. I used passed the civil construction test in April and I used the six minute solutions books for most of my practice problems. Be sure to get the ncees sample exam book as well. I had a number of similarities between the sample exam and my actual exam.

For AM portion of the test: If u follow CERM you will be good. Are u taking any review class ? In case if u are taking School of PE. They cover very well for AM portion. Regarding construction PM. It depends on your grip/knowledge of Estimation and Project Management topics. Do u have all references ? U will get one question from each reference ( eg: weld symbols from Steel/ a simple calculation based on MUTCD/ some kind of coefficient from masonry wall design etc...). The best approach is to target 33-35 questions from AM.

I used the 12th Ed. CERM and 2nd Ed. All-in-One by Goswami. I had access to MUTCD, OSHA and plenty of transpo books, but really lacked in the construciton book dept. From what I can remember, the CERM and Goswami had me prepared for the morning and the additional books I had from the afternoon had maybe 1-2 questions from each. Maybe if I had the others (crane book, masonry, etc.), I could have passed the first try, but I doubt it. None of us really know how the new exam will be, so maybe in January, we'll all have a better idea. Good luck!

Oops, I'm helping someone with the FE Exam and got a little discombobulated (how ironic the word DISCO is in there). I did want to mention that from what I saw and from what others have said, the 6-minute solutions and NCEES test questions are your best bet. Also, don't make a mistake on this forum, because ptatohed is ALL OVER IT and will call you out on it. Hahaha...I am glad he caught it though because I am sure mass confusion could easily have ensued.

There CERM is necessary for the exam but I would recommend getting practice problems from various sources. Dr. Mansour has some pretty good resources at www.PassPE.com though this book does have some errors and he never responded to my questions I sent him asking for clarification or the location of the errata for the book.

I didn't think the School of PE prepared me well for Construction but it prepared me well for everything else in the morning. The binders were invaluable.

The best advice for the AM is same answer as the PM. Get the latest NCEES Sample Exam and note their references cited in the solution section back of booklet. Get every reference cited. Some are free online. Mark the indices first. Between the AM and PM you may answer 5 or so questions just from searching for key words in the indices which would have been impossible otherwise. Extra cost? You bet, but why fail by 1 problem because you went cheap on reference material? Press your employer to reimburse you.

I am twice pe (water resources pm) failed. Construction both times I got 3/8. It does not seem hard but results are otherwise. I went to test masters, had CERM and GOswami. Both does not seem to have much reg construction that appeared in exam. Please advice so to how should I ace this seemingly easy yet difficult for me to cross hurdle. What do you suggest?
