I want to know how much money people spends in average to pass the PE exam (how much $ is in your expense report to your company). From exam application fee to rubber stamps, and all in between.

Well,

$150 for reference books and study materials

$60 for the application fee

$255 for the exam fee

So the total is $465 for the PE.

For the FE I paid,

$20 for study materials

$400 for a credential evaluation (VA didn't accept my Canadian degree as ABET equivalent)

$30 for the application fee

$145 for the exam fee

So the total is $595 for the FE

Grand total of $1060

I was able to borrow 6-min solutions and a few NCEES practice exams from coworkers.

(Maybe add in another $175 for a hotel near the exam site. Screw driving 1.5 hours in the snow at 5:30 am on exam day.)

Don't forget a lot of the prep courses have gotten really expensive. There arent that many options available if you want to spend less than $700 for them.

to break it down:

I spent 377 to apply to NYS to qualify

249 to take the test

that right there is 626

995 for a PE review class

the rest on books and reference materials - I made sure I had all my references going into the test because you never know what questions they will ask about them ... and I didn't wanna take it again

I plan on selling just about everything and I will get reimbursed from my job for a good portion of it ...

you do what you have to, to pass and from the first time ... that way you don't spend another 249 just to take it again ... at least that was my motto ...

i spent just about $3k

~2400 on a seismic review course and a review course for the 8 hr civil exam through PPI. This includes books/study materials.

$265 NCEES fee

$265 CA application fee (i think?)

~$60 prometric test center fee for surveying exam

~$60 prometric test center fee for seismic exam

company paid all my fees and half the cost of the review courses and books. passed all 3 the first time, so it was totally worth it for me! think of all the personal time i save by not having to study for 3 months again
