The firm I left was good. I only left because the commute was insane (2.5-3 hours each way). I would have stayed otherwise.
Traffic?

Last job in consulting: In at 7:30am, leave around 6:00pm.  Was told I need to take an hour lunch every day, but it never really happened.  Averaged around 10-hours a day, but with my commute, my weekly total 'working' was 65+ hours a week.  Very exhausting.

New job (public): Solid 40-hours a week.  Didn't realize how much long hours/commuting was killing me.
Did you enjoy the old job's work?

My supervisor has explicitly told me to keep it at 40 for basically the last year. That's partially because I'm primarily on a project that we're milking, but don't want to milk too hard... And also because we get paid salary plus. I am currently working for a private sector consultant, in case anyone's wondering.
Noice.

So I work for a consulting firm. Have for 8+ years.

It depends on my projects and clients. It's cyclic.

I've had clients were I was easily doing 60 hour weeks. I have a client now, it's usually 40, sometimes maybe 45.

I also have a coworker who I've seen stay past 4pm a handful of times in the 3 years he's been here - there have been times i'ts been needed to stay late and he just doesnt. I know the nail clipping coworker would say that they work 50+ hour weeks but a lot of that they did to themselves (they are inefficient and awful at managing their time, they blow things out of proportion)
So I'm wondering if a lot of the bad reviews I'm hearing were just special scenarios, or if the people we doing it to themselves.

I miss the consulting work, but I do like the job stability of my current job, even though the work is extremely boring.

I've got a somewhat serious question to gauge the room.

How many hours do you spend at work on average?

Like, in reality. I've met people that are like, "I averaged over 100 hours a week in my last job." I can't help but not believe them.

I average 40. In at 7, out at 4. Sometimes later if something important is going on.

I may have follow up questions.
It really depends on the workload. Last year around this time, we were working 60-70 to get projects out the door. Studying for the PE exam, I was strictly 40 and now I hover from 40-45. Smaller consulting firm btw

I think it depends. My last supervisor was AWESOME and I was really bummed to leave. Life happens.

Edit: Ooh! REALLY surprise ToP! :bananalama:

Do they have comparable spice profiles/similar ratios of cinnamon/all spice/nutmeg etc?  I like using KAF as a base for a lot of my recipes, but I don't follow them to the "T" because they like to semi-push their in-house made specialty items (like their special spice blends/pie thickeners/etc.).  Not going to lie, usually when I'm attempting a new recipe, I'll find like six or seven versions of what I'm making and Frankenstein everything together based on baking knowledge and what I know works.
I didnt compare KAF to SK or whatever recipe that is also being discussed.

I don't really make pie and when I have, it's from SK. I think I've only made 2 KAF recipes and it was bread

Either you all are poor performers at work for four months out of the year, or you are way too underutilized and need more to do.

I worked in Brownfields redevelopment, so I went from doing a lot of field work/investigations directly into PM activities.  I wrote a lot of reports, and enjoyed some of it, but I wasn't doing actual engineering work (which is what was promised).  My new job is more project management, but they never told me I would be doing 'engineering' work, like design etc., so I am more content with that than being promised something and never having fruition.  You can't make the horse chance after the carrot on the stick if there is no carrot.

I mostly use KAF for bread and semi-specific recipes they post.  A majority of my recipes are from baker blogs, tbh.  Once I get past their whole backstory involving apple picking and/or enjoying grandma, recipes are fairly legit.

Part of the time when I was pulling ridiculous hours also had to do with poor management: they didn't assign enough resources or resources who had a clue to complete the project so I was carrying the full weight of our section of the design. (like my manager gave me a new grad engineer as a solution to me needing help. like literally 3 weeks out of school and new nothing. so I had to train him AND keep the project on schedule)

Working in the office and jobsites, or working in the office and unpaid at home. Two very different things!

My previous job, probably averaged over 60 hrs/week working. So 120 hrs per pp. Official hours 7-5ish, but always had to work from home or the hotel in the evenings.

Current job, I'm on the clock 80 hrs/ pay period. Very little need to work unpaid or paid OT unless there is a national emergency. Hours are mostly 7ish-3/4ish

I'm severely underutilized. Most of my weekly work only requires a few hours. I couldn't even do more if I wanted to.

Yeah same. And OMGOSH wtf with the freaking tomes about Grandma and apple picking!? It's SO ANNOYING.

Right now, I could definitely be utilized more but my client work is slow til January so here I am.
