I only buy Toyota, Lexus, Honda. You have to be patient and find vehicles with perfect service records. Back in 2009 I spent 8 months looking for the perfect used truck. I knew I wanted a Toyota Tacoma 4 door 4x4. Took my time and found a pre-leased one that had 30k miles and was leased by a guy in his late 50s. Two years ago I decided to get a Lexus GX470 for my wife. Spent 4 months searching. I found out you could plug the VIN into the Lexus website and get all the dealer service records. Found one at a small used car lot with a perfect maintenance record. It looked like a soccer mom that took the SUV into the dealer every 5k miles. I had cash and spent 4 days back and forth haggling the dealer from $13k down to $9K out the door.
You sound like my dad. It's great you are willing to wait to find those deals and getting bargains, but I hate haggling over prices so much. I'd much rather just go to CarMax and pay a set price, knowing that I'm paying a little more money in the long run to not have to deal with arguing over prices.

I have realized that a lot of folks on EB own or have owned a truck.
I have never owned a truck.  I was thinking about getting one, when my Solara finally died, and I just...I wasn't on construction sites as much and I didn't have to haul a horse, so no reason!

It would have made moving the bodies a little bit easier, though.

Are you mafia. Also a truck is open so a body could be seen. wouldn't a wagon be better?

But I agree. I never felt the need to own one. My truck use is probably around like once a year.

Yeah, I know some people who swear by it, and it's worked out pretty well for them. For me, the car that blew up was a Honda Civic with only 135k miles on it.  :dunno: I'm also not going to have the cash to buy the kind of car you mentioned outright, anytime soon (particularly if my wife is unable to get to her job, because she doesn't have a car), which means I'm relegated to financing... And I'm certainly not financing a used car. Screw that noise.

Sedans are better! My Camry had SO MUCH trunk space. But my Crosstrek, not so much

*squinty eyes*

I DIDN'T HAVE THE TOWN PAINT MY WAGON, SO I COULDN'T USE IT.

Yeah, I think having a truck is worth it if you're on construction sites (and actually using it to drive around the site/it has a gas bump tank or something on it) or you're a farmer/have to haul horses/actually work.  Otherwise, I can stuff way more stuff in a normal car, as needed.

My friend rode down the Mt Washington Auto Road in the back of my Subie last summer - while he could sit up, he didn't have a lot of led room. The trunk of my camry would've been more spacious for him

I mean, a Camry trunk is def a 4-body trunk if I've ever seen one.  I was able to fit so much stuff into my Corolla when I was moving.  The trunk is surprisingly big on all Toyota!
