Was very productive today. Unpacked boxes, reorganized the kitchen, packed up duplicate, made a box for donations. Laundry. Scones. Home depot trip. Trip to my place to get more stuff because we're moving my stuff by the Subie load (we've only brought his truck once). This is my least fave move I think and I once packed and moved out in the middle of winter with no power and construction debris everywhere
This seems like a bad thing to say seeing how you're moving in with your boyfriend.

so I didn't get into it on here but at the MD exam, there was an older gentleman who had a stack of stapled papers confiscated. the proctors were super nice about things they took away from folks. they actually gave a lot of stuff back. for instance, I had a pack of reinforcements stuffed in a pocket that I forgot about, so I handed them over.

so anyway, the exam is over. the proctors hands all of our stuff back to us except for the papers. the man goes up to the proctor's table to get his papers. the proctor stops him and says "no I'm sorry you can't have these back". I think they were taken DURING the exam so there may have been an issue of whether he copied something down in the packet.

anyway, he's all upset. he gets louder. he's pulling on the packet. another proctor walks up to explain to him that he needs to leave the building and leave the packet with them. we are all packing up to leave so it's not like he's being kicked out. again he was older and I don't think English was his first language. when I walked pass the proctors, the section proctor said "...and I'll make sure to write down exactly what he said to me..." I walked away quickly but I wouldn't be surprised if his exam was invalidated.

I murmured to myself "dude, let it go." but quickly realized that I needed to mind my own business so I scurried away as quickly as possible.
okay so #1, why the f#% don't people read the f$%^ing instructions beforehand. This is a career altering event, maybe spend like 3 minutes before test day to ensure that you aren't accidently shoooting yourself in the foot. IDK if this is just a personal pet peeve because I'm a NukeE, or maybe its an OCD thing. But seriously, WTF people, do the minimum!

#2, the packet thing by itself wouldn't be disqualifying by itself. It happens all the time, and assuming he didn't write exam stuff in it, he'd prolly be okay.. But getting advesarial and in a minor physcial confrontation with the instructors feels like something that will get his scores invalidated. It's pretty unprofessional. It wouldn't surprise me if he has to reapply to take the test. full disclosure: I have nothing to back up anything in this para

#3, some of the delay in releasing the results in NCEES having to investigate all these incidents. Just follow the damn rules and obey the instructors!

Honestly, I would think that the overwhelming majority just take the test and worry about those details later. Maybe they might recall something a professor or colleague told them years ago and run with it
You know, when I was a kid, adults would tell me that I was really smart, and I didn't necessarily believe them. At least I didn't until I got to middle school. Then I looked around at all the other hooligans in my age group, and realized that I was well above average...

I just can't imagine signing up for an 8-hour exam that costs $350 (plus State board fees) and comes with the gravity that the PE does; and going in with Literally. No. Idea. how the exam is scored.

I'm baffled, again.  :blink2:

LOL not what I meant. I meant the way we're going about this move. Like I was literally packing boxes for him to load into my car. It's just very inefficient and disorganized. I wasn't able to label boxes!

Took the words right out of my mouth. Maybe minus the expletives... Maybe.

I think OCD is a prerequisite to being a nuke, on account of the whole face-melty (or, everything-melty) thing...

Why weren't you able to label the boxes? That is no bueno at all.

And I knew you didn't mean it, it was just too funny to ignore!

He kept grabbing them and I kept losing my marker. I got boxes from my coworker so they're labeled with *his* move. And I'm like "that's not my hand writing!"

lol yeah. You really don't want to mess up in this discipline. That's partly why the safety factors are so large.

But sometimes risk provokes the opposite reaction. I've met so many aerospace engineers who are total cowboys. "40% chance or catastrophic failure every time we launch? Meh whatever. It's not like we own the launch complex. We'll just buy three at twice the price. One of them will work. "

I was so paranoid about messing something up that I brought 3 calculators with me on exam day. 3!! Any time I had a question about something before the exam, I called the State Board just to double check. Like you said, I can't imagine paying all that money for the exam, spending all that time studying for it, and then showing up and not knowing what's going on.
