Need Study Materials and advice for FE exam

Hi All,

I am planning to take the FE exam this October, I live in California. I am originally an architect but got into the engineering field and planning to pursue engineering licensure.

I need advice in:

1. What study material I should get, I found PPI, but some told me that it's not that good. So any advice on a good source for materials, also a good source for review classes.
   
2. As I mentioned above my educational background is not engineering, so what is the best choice for me concerning the afternoon session, should I choose general?
