I could use some suggestions/advice. I am a power engineer for a major power component manufacturer in the northeast. I can't stand the cold anymore! I have several friends who relocated to the southeast and really enjoy it. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best places location and companies for a power engineer with 5yrs experience and a M.S. and a P.E. to work. My biggest criteria besides hiring is that it be near a major city. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Duke Energy might have some openings in the Carolinas. They have had a flurry of activity as of late (Marshall, Belews Creek, Cliffside), and the potential for the nuclear plant in Cherokee.

ABB and Siemens have facililties in the Orlando area(both) and I think ABB has another one in Coral Spring(FL). That will move you out of the cold, unless you call 33 degrees cold. That was our temp this morning in the Central Florida area.

I have decided that if I get laid off from the Utility that I work for that I would move to North Carolina near Ralleigh. I think Duke and Progress Energy are base out of NC somewhere. The winters would be mild and there is alot of outdoor stuff to do there. Plus the summers would not be unbearable.
